At the start of winter I changed the engine oil and filter on my 2000 M2, put Stabil in the fuel and stored the bike in my garage for the winter. I added just over 2 litres of 20-50 when I changed the oil. While taking it out of storage this spring I found that there is not 1 drop of oil in the oil tank. I wondered if I forgot to add the oil or if it all drained into the sump. After starting the engine, the oil light went out immediatly and after running for about 2 minutes I shut it off and checked the oil. The tank was noe about 1/2 full of very foamy oil. Is this normal with these engines or do I have a problem with my oil pump. I see that there was a new design oil pump brought out on 2001 models with improved scavenging. Anyway I guess I just need to know if this is a common thing with these engines. Thanks guys. |

John, I don't know if your experience is "common", but it is not unheard of. The oil pump and check ball do not always prevent oil in the tank from draining into the crankcase. If you take her for a ride, you will likely find that the oil level returns to normal. The foam should dissipate once the crankcase oil level returns to normal. |

Yep, my '97 M2 will do that after being stood for about 2 months. Regards Steve steve_s@ukbeg.com www.ukbeg.com |

John : It's a normal Sportster/Buell thing , an act of gravity , many have made the mistake of dumping a bunch more oil in and then having the oil tank cap blow off ( big effin mess ). JDH |

Hoser, In the excitment of taking it out for the first ride, I added that and pushed the stick back into the tank. While letting it idle with the seat off I damm near got the shiney little projectile in the side of the head as it shot out. Oh well |

We were out riding 3 Buells 5 jap bikes and we stopped for lunch. My M2 had chosen that time to start leaking around the rear rocker box,and my buddies S2 had oil all over the side of his bike.We all were looking at out leaking Buells, and my buddy said he added to much oil and his bike had the ability to SELF LEVEL his oil level! We all got a good laugh! |
