Howdy all, Once again I turn to you for some advice- this time on a set(?) of affordable stands for the XB. Which do you recommend? Is a rear stand that supports the swingarm OK or is it better to get one that supports the bike on the footpegs (if that even a good idea)? How often do you use the front stand? Could I get by (for now) with only a rear stand? Thanks, Cheese | ||

Just recieved a pair yesterday from Handy industries. $117 total for both pieces, including shiping. (cheapest set they had). Tried them out last night & they seemed to work OK on my Uly. I ordered the rubber padded "L" brackets for the rear stand. Will be away from the computer untill Mon. but I can send you P/N's and contact info. next week. I found them advertised in Cycle World. | ||

i use the Lockhart Phillips universal stand, works good, was cheap and has lasted ~4 years without issue. i only have a rear stand, handy for most stuff but if you want to loft the front end for wheel removal or other jobs a front stand is handy. some guys just use tie-downs from the garage ceiling for extra-cheap front wheel removal. if you want to invest in a set you'll never have to replace... get Pitbulls. | ||

I have the front and rear Pitbulls from DaveS. Can not say enough the stands strong and makes wheel removal and most services a breeze, and DaveS has the best prices going for the set. | ||

I have just the rear Lockhart-Phillips... It is a little narrow and requires the removal and shortening of the clamp springs... they're easy to shorten, just a snip with a decent pair of diagonal pliers... To get the font up just use the rear stand w/ a floor jack under the muffler.... | ||

I have the LP rear stand. It works great. I did shorten the springs as well. | ||

Freyke, thats weird that you had to cut stuff on the LP rear stand. I just moved the spring to the outside rather than the inside. Might be a different stand though, mine has the "L" brackets that go under the swingarm. My CBR needed the springs on the inside, XB needed them on the outside. I forgot about the floor jack under the muffler trick while its on the rear stand, thats what I've done too. Works well. | ||

Handy stands work on the XB and theyre 100 bucks a set I dont own any but I put my bike on a set to see how they work and theyre just fine. | ||

If you intend to use the stands for serious service I recommend a front stand that lifts the bottom of the steering stem. Not needed unless you have an aftermarket muffler of course, then you just use a floor jack. It allows you to remove the fork tubes or adjust their height more easily. The ones that lift from the bottom of the forks work fine for everything else. Pit bull and vortex are the best brands available period.  never try to use a front stand without putting it on a rear stand first, unless you like picking your bike up off of the ground  (Message edited by diablobrian on January 27, 2006) | ||

i have the Lockhart Phillips universal rear stand also...bought it cheap on eBay...that deals with most of my problems...then I have a Sears scissor jack that takes care of the rest | ||

Here is the mediaeval approach. Put the bike on your rear wheel stand. Lockhart Phillips will do. Then: 1. Steal some 2x6's 2. Stack three of them under the front of the muffler 3. use a four foot long piece to lever the bike up. 4. Have your girlfriend stick the fourth piece on top of the stack,(if you can't get her to handle the lever:-) 5. ease bike down on stack of 2x6 6. return the wood to the job site later. Looks like this if you do it right:  Kinda tricky if you want to do it all by yourself. | ||

Lol you want medevil here is medevil! Take a strong ratchet strap and throw it around a rafter and the triple clamp and hoist! for the rear I use two ordinary car jackstands and rocking the bike onto the kickstand slide on weel padded one first under the right side then the left side. Works great. | ||

I use these stands only for washing wheels, oil changes, and whenever my other stand, (which is simular to Rhinowerx's stand) will interfere with my work. (like muffler removal). I have a rear Pitbull on Ebay. Item number: 4608845770 I have a Sears atv jack and I just slide it under the muffler and jack it up and use tie downs to hold the bike in place. | ||
