Okay....I'd tried just about ever trick known to man (and then some) to get the last retaining ring off the shaft. It's the one that is kinda set "into" the gear. This is the last piece I need to remove to finish rebuilding the tranny. Any suggestions??? Thanks! |

I had no problems removing every retaining ring from counter or main shaft
using Stahlwille circlip pliers.

I'll second that. You have to get the retaining ring pliers. I just bought a set of four, different sizes, etc. at Kragen Auto parts for about $10.00 a few weeks ago. I can't recall the brand, but they had a lifetime warranty and worked like a charm. |

Delta,before I had that Stahlwille special pliers for horseshoe circlips on transmission shafts,I tried several regular retaining ring pliers.None of them did any good work on that kind of retaining rings. I have had bleeding fingers and needed ten times more time to get the rings of the shaft, than I need now, not to mention all the maledictions I shouted. http://www.seeger-orbis.de/de/index.php?article_id=290 With the Stahlwille tool working on transmission is a pleasure,before that it was hard work. http://www.stahlwille-online.de/pictures/all/6547_fot_022.jpg That tool is worth every cent of the €23 I paid for it. I've tried the retaing ring pliers. Worked great for all but the last one. It sounds like the Stahlwille is the better tool. Too bad it's a European tool that isn't readily available in the States. |

In Germany you can get/order them in any better shop for tools.(Is it a "Hardware store" in the USA?) Maybe you can go for the similar tool made by Hazet.P/N is 1847-2 You can get all Hazet tools in the US from Samstags Sales. It's a reseller of Hazet tools.It has a lot of Hazet tools in stock, but can get you any other Hazet tool as well. http://www.samstagsales.com/hazet.htm http://www.samstagsales.com/images/hz1847-2.jpg On the other hand,if you can find a way to send me the money,it would be a pleasure for me to send you the Stahlwille pliers.But there is no real need for it. Stahlwille is not better than Hazet and your price in the USA is similar to the price I would have to pay in Germany. Ralph (Message edited by xldevil on March 07, 2006) |
