Buell BUILT the S1 then obviously broke the mold. When I was getting my S1 in June 2001 it was a 1998 model still sitting on the floor. I had the choice between the M2 and the S1. I chose correctly. Everytime I stop, whether it be for gas or anything else someone always asks questions. Even better due to the fact I have the only Buell for about 700km. Bring back the tube framed S1, on second thought don't as I won't be so unique.

I would like to have an S1, no doubt. I was actually very close to buying a Duc, when on a lark I went to a Buell dealer and saw two hotted up X1's, blasting that outrageous exhaust note and leaping out of the parking lot with quick twists of the throttle. One month later, I had my own.

Then again I would almost kill to be in California right now, you can still RIDE.

I lived in Argentia in the late '50s...Coast Guard brat. We rarely got to St. Johns, but Newfoundland was an absolutely wonderful place for a kid, I really enjoyed it!

I think it was not so much that people were begging for a SV1000, but more like:
1-We sell SV650's as fast as we can make them.
2-We have this wonderfull 1000cc V-twin engine, that we spent alot of money developing, and every bike we put it in sells for crap.

Nothing sounds or feels like a Buell!If your riding with a pack of JAP CRAP,the Buell is the bike people come up to and look at!Even the other riders love getting behind to hear it run.I didnt buy a Buell to go warp speed fast.I did buy my Buell for the look,sound,feel!Different in every sense--EXACTLY!:)

I woulda liked to see a geodesic steel frame that holds the oil...eliminating the oil tank...allowing the same compact Firebolt geometry, but with a real tank and a frikkin' carb...side mounted of course.

A good EFI systems beats a good carb system any day of the week. The XB9 has a GOOD EFI system. Outside of the ability to user self service and modify, why would you want to go carb ?

Carb please. Simplicity, reliability, performance. True, EFI is superior in its ability to adaptat to different conditions, in its ease of adjustment, and for its optimum emissions performance.

How many DDFI versus carburetor failures have been logged? Answer, lots of DDFI, hardly any Carburetor.

I've had EFI problems on every EFI vehicle (two automobiles) I own. Not so with the carbureted ones, and I have more of those.

Who's bike set the new MPS-PF record at Bonneville, the carbed bike or the fancy EFI bike?

Geek, Henry Duga at Buell has a fully adjustable ECM for XB and X1. Gotta get your race license to get it tho.

Oh come on Blake, you know you can't wait to own an EFI Buell. What's stopping you is the fact that current Buell EFI power capabilities stop around 100 rwhp. Not many miles on my X1 yet but it's reliable so far and I've never had problems with my EFI autos.

Someday soon, Aaron will convert too. He knows it's potential. It's just that the aftermarket doesn't offer anything that suits his purposes yet. Merch and S&S are working on it. Same with that MAD EFI thingy.

Perhaps a dual injector/cylinder setup is possible for those with big inch thirsts?

According to Henry Duga, there isn't a bigger injector available. Perhaps a modified intake could allow use of a big twin injector provided they operate on the same electrical signals. HD's largest FI engine is the 103" SE road sofa.

A fuel injector is just a 12 volt solenoid. I would think any one would do, as long as it fit in the hole. Some modifications might have to be done to accommodate a different connector, but if it squirts fuel, it should work right? (with modifications to the fuel map of course)

My understanding of generating high HP with the Buells is higher RPM. I think most all the dynos I've seen show the 100+ numbers coming in above 6000 RPM. The 103 doesn't rev that high. It might be using a longer duration on the injector pulse rather than a larger orifice. In fact, to save money,(I don't know this, pure speculation) it might be the same injector that Buell uses. Rather, Buell used the same one Harley used. If this is the case, we might run into the same issue i.e. not being able to have the injector spray enough fuel during the time the intake valve is open at those high RPMs. I'm sure better minds than mine have thought of this, and if so, why didn't it work? I would think if someone had conquered the 100+ HP problem with DDFI, we would have heard about it don't you?

The Pro Thunder XB's use the stock throttle body (bored out of course) but a bigger injector...


...and I'd still rather have a carb!

The HD injectors are different animals and physically larger. The only reason is because of the displacement it must cater to. A manifold mod would have to be done. That said, anyone with an 88" X1 should be able to match Torqd's 131 HP with a modded manifold, new FI map and the big twin injectors given that all the other mods are the same as Franks as well. I'm still not positive that the HD ECM provides the same voltage or signal wave type that Buell does. But it does seem like the potential is there with a little creativity.
