I was wondering if there is anything special you have to do before you swap to syn? I'm not actually sure what is in it now, since I have only had it for 8 months, is there a way to tell?

Nothing special to be done unless the syn oil you are going to use says on the bottle that it is not compatible with dyno oil.. I have not seen any syn oil's that are not compatible by the way.

I just put all synthetic Mobile one in the primary and eng. I can tell a big difference. Especially in the tranny. Shifts smoother and fan doesnt run as much. All I did was ride it for 30 min or so got the bike good and hot and drained it. I just let the oils run completley and swaped out filters of course.

I don't know if this was a coincidence or not but as soon as I switched to Mobil 1 in my 99' M2 the rocker box gaskets(paper) failed. Soon thereafter my crank seal went (maybe 1000mi.)

I switched them all out and have not had a problem since. All of the failures were on seals which were later updated by Harley.

I am not drawing any conclusions, just stating the facts.

I have used Mobil 1 auto 15w50 and have 25,000 miles on the Harley without any issues. On my Buell I changed the dino diesel oil 2 times before 500 miles and then at 2500 miles switched over to Shell Rotella Syn.

Check out this link on oil... http://www.yft.org/tex_vfr/tech/oil.htm
