Toaster Tan: Great advice from everyone. Here's a couple more suggestions  - when you change the primary fluid, make sure to fill only to the bottom edge of the diaphragm spring. - When you adjust the throttle cables, make sure they are securely bottomed in the receiving barrels on the carb side. While you're in there safety wire those cables so they stay in the barrels. When you're done, the throttle should snap back with a solid smack. - change the brake fluid both front and rear. Make sure to bleed until the levers feel rock hard, not spongy. - Philly is right about those tires - change them do all this before your trip home ... please. Henrik | ||

Frank (cyclone1) I did mine with a ziz wheel (impregnated wheel on a spindle mounted in a pneumatic die grinder) and a grinding bit. I did it on the bike, but I wouldn't really recommend that method. I would recommend leaving the part that grabs the alignment pin by the pully. I didn't, but should have. Also, be sure you've got the correct cover. They made a change in 2000 in the oil passages in the cover. Al | ||

BSix, Lone Star is giving demo rides on their XB9S. I understand that the factory provides an incentive to do so, like a $500 discount or something. You know you want it. Shreveport is selling a new XB9S for $9K. So theoretically, you should be able to get the demo in Tyler for $8.5K. See you at OHR on Saturday? Kinda funny, Lone Star has five V-Rods on the floor and only one XB9R and one demo XB9S with no new ones slated for the remainder of the year. | ||

How do you think V-Rod sales have shaped up? Let me toss you a bone.....how, in your humble opinion, would you guesstimate the "customer satisfaction" and "quality" numbers to compare for the V-Rod and the XB platform from Buell? Both released in the same time period...... Anybody seen a real V-Rod? To date, in New York City, I've seen more MV Agusta's than V-Rods...wazzup with that? | ||

I've seen 2 VROD's in the wild, both leaving the same bar on different days, one stock anodized, one purple. I've only seen one other Firebolt in the area. The Firebolt rider stopped by where I work, 'cause he saw my XB parked out front. The way the Rods have been selling, I'm surprised they aint everywhere. I sure as hell wouldn't spend $17k+ for a big ass trophy to polish in my garage! | ||

Toaster Tan; one more thing ... find out which aftermarket exhaust (brand, year, mounting brackets) is on the bike. Some had less than reliable rear hanger arrangements. Let us know, and we can tell you what emergency straps to bring in case it lets go on your way home. Also, check the torque on the header nuts. I use a split washer under mine - and bring a handful of spares - just in case Henrik | ||

I have seen quite a few V-rods. Saw 2 this morning as a matter of fact. I have yet to see anyone with a Firebolt around here yet. I see quite a few Buells, but not 1 single Firebolt. Also Court, yes the V-rod & the lil bolt were introduced at the same time, but remember the Rod was available shortly thereafter, whereas the bolt took what, another 9 months or so to be released? | ||

Cool...this is exciting. I liked the color scheme of the one I saw and it sounds like the performance is decidely "non-Harley" like. I'm certain of one thing, Buell will never say one word about a bike before it's ready to roll out the dooor. We, the gathering internet masses, cried out "if it's not ready, at LEAST let us see it". They did and in classic "no good deed goes unpunished" got pummeled, not from the press or anyone else, just their "loyal" owners. I'm going to have to be more aware and look for one of these things. How are they holding up in service? Anyone got any warranty numbers? The V-Rod is the first "new" platform from KC and it should speak volumes about falling warranty/vehicle numbers, I'd think. By the way...does the darn thing "sound like a HArley" after that 5 years and millions of $$$ to "protect" the sound? What an irony it'd be if, after all that, Harley's no longer sounded like...er, well "Harley's". | ||

As far as warranty goes on the rod, we haven't really seen much come through the shop. Have had a couple of leakers, but "It's a Harley..." so that's to be expected, hehe. And no, it doesn't sound like a Harley at all. Of course father Harley says it does, but they're smokin crack :P They just wanna keep the traditional customers coming in I think. And as far as test riding one, remember this...it has a 67.5 in. wheel base, so it handles like a fookin' freightrain. Us Buelligans aren't used to that...I'd really like to see them make a sportbike with that motor in it i.e. like that artist rendering in that Cycle world a few month's ago Thats my 2 cents worth Frank | ||

Aaron so sorry to hear about the loss of your Opie. Take comfort knowing that you were able to help her when she needed you most. Court, I read a lot & belong to quite a few Harley boards. From everything I have picked up so far the V-Rod is doing an outstanding job of holding up. No real issues of any kind so far. A few people bitch about the lack of cornering clearance, but thats to be expected given the bikes dimensions. I have seen few that had been anodized or painted somehow & they look much better than the all silver model. The only issues I have with the bike myself are I dont care for the looks of the Headlight, the pipes & the solid disc wheels. Have seen a few that had those changed & WOW what a difference. No they do not sound like a traditional Harley. With the pipes opened up they sound good, but its sure as hell no Evo sound. And Harley dropped that whole sound patenting deal a while back. I think they realized there was no way they were ever gonna win. | ||

Court, I've seen a few of them over here. I actually tried to stay with one on my M2 before I sold it. I could keep with the Rod, but no way was the Buell any faster until we got to a corner. You can ask Grizzly about my F.U. then..... I'm resisting the urge to actually test ride one in case I like it. Just sitting's ok though......  PPiA | ||

There are a few V-Rods around here. I've only seen one 'bolt on the road. I'm not sure what they all sound like, I'm always passing them way to fast to hear much of what they sound like bighairy88"ralph | ||

well I had the last cyclone (new) in oz lined up (found one that wasn't a low)and went down on the weekend to trade. I have been planning to buy one for at least a year. Unfortunately (for people on this forum) I was given a ride on a triumph speed triple, man was it a hoot, didn't come back for an hour, and after that I just couldn't bring myself to fork over the money for the bike I had been drooling over for so long. Court asking about the V-Rod??? Does that qualify as Trolling? You should really just ride one, you'll be shocked. You are WAY more likely to run into a V-Rod than you are with a Firebolt, or even other Buells. HD has cranked out 13,248 in the past nine months, and only 4,368 "Big Twin" Buells. For perspective, they produced 38,625 Sportsters in that same period. | ||
