I just read that FUSA is going away, to be replaced by some American Sport Bike Association events. Clear Channel dumped the whole CCS/FUSA deal apparently.

Here's the reports on it...

http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=24615

Not sure what it really means though.

there is alot of guessing about stuff going on , on the ccs message board. I was just wondering if any of the thunderbike guys heard anything definitive about what is going on. I was planning on racing ccs thunderbike and a couple fusa events,I guess I'll just wait and hope things are ( classes) are set up like they were last year.

I can't imagine that with the support that Buell provided the class that there won't be another similar one. Sure would be great to see the Ducatis, and other bikes in the class make a better showing.

Based on the info posted on CCS's new website, www.ccsracing.us, not much is changing other that the name FUSA being replaced with ASRA. However, it seems the one big rule change of the year is directed at Buells that race in the Super Sport Series. The info provided on the web indicated that XB Buells will not be entitled to unlimited internal engine modifications as they have in the past. It does not say what modifications would be allowed. Does anyone have more info on this topic?

If it is any consolation guys, we will DEFINITELY have Thunderbike racing here in the UK next year : )

Run to the same rules as the F-USA Thunderbike series it looks like being a cracking series already.
We have a meeting on Monday that could see this run at the very highest level of British Motorcycle Sport. Watch this space......; )

quote:

Following the tradition of
Formula USA racing from 2005,
ASRA is proud to announce it’s
class lineup for the 2006 Championship
Season.
The premier class for ASRA will
continue to be SportBike, with it’s
105 horsepower and 350 pound
minimum weight limits. This class
has produced some of the closest
finishes in history with the margin
between first and third sometimes as
small as a tenth of a second! That’s
why SportBike is the class used for
the oldest road race in the U.S., the
83rd Annual Loudon Classic.
The crowd favorite will be back,
as the ThunderBikes return to the
track for 2006 while maintaining their
tried and true formula of horsepower
to weight controls based on the
engine configuration.
Rounding out the program is the
ASRA SuperBikes. These 660cc, 330
pound rockets are truly impressive
as they demonstrate the potential of
today’s four-stroke street bikes.
This is the class for the rider who
just can’t leave anything alone, it’s
pretty much anything goes as long
as you use the basic street motorcycle.
That’s American ingenuity at
it’s best!
These three powerful classes
return to American racing and it’s all
within your reach as an Expert
licensed rider, check it out inside for
more information.

So they dropped the Formula Sportbike (750 IL4's vs 1000 Twins) cause nobody cared and participation fell off

quote:

After some closer evaluation, the only
class that won’t return for another season
in the Pro Series is Formula SportBike.
While the formula kept the racing close and
competitive, participation had droppped off
too much to continue. So we say goodbye to
Formula SportBike for 2006.

The 2006 Committee also clarified the
displacement allowed for triples in Thunder-
Bike (675cc for liquid cooled models, 1200ccs
for air cooled, non injected models).
One other clarification/change for
ThunderBike, now the 748 series Ducati can
run in CCS ThunderBike as long as the
displacement remains 750cc or less.

....

The ThunderBike class, the crowd
favorite, returns without change leaving
the ratio to 4.0 pounds per horsepower
(tested weight divided by tested horsepower)
for twins and triples. Four cylinder
machines will be required to meet 5.0
pounds per horsepower (tested weight
divided by tested horsepower).

These rules will favor the new Triumph 675, should anybody decide to race it in this class.

I saw mention of an Amateur thunderbike class in the ASRA.

"Our ASRA American SportBike Racing Series adds even more to the mix with SportBike and SuperBike competition on the pro level and ThunderBike for both amateurs and experts. And for endurance lovers, our GT classes and Team Challenge Series offer the best seat time anywhere."

That would be something new as well. An amateur class in a national series.

no it wouldn't be.you could race as an am. last year.its goi9ng to be interesting to see if in fact they do let the triumph race in thunderbike.Mike Himmelsbach has already said he'll be racing one in the sportbike class.there wouldn't be any reason he wouldn't race thunderbike while he was there at the nationalsthat would mean some extra loot for him.

Also, I can't get a link to the new rule book. Is it not open yet, or are you guys able to get it!?

From a press release issued by Buell Motorcycle Company:

BUELL ANNOUNCES EXPANDED RACING CONTINGENCY PROGRAM

More Cash Contingencies Offered to Privateer Buell Racers In 2006

MILWAUKEE -- Buell Motorcycle Company recently announced it will increase its racing support program for 2006, with cash contingency paid to racers aboard Buell motorcycles in multiple regional and national race series. Buell racers will be chasing more than a quarter million dollars of cash contingencies at race tracks across the U.S. in 2006.

The program will continue to reward Buell racers competing in Championship Cup Series (CCS), Willow Springs Motorcycle Club (WSMC) and Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association (WMRRA). In addition, Buell plans to offer new contingencies in the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) and WERA Motorcycle Roadracing.

“We’re proud to support the racing efforts of our Buell dealers and privateer riders nationwide through our expanded contingency program and trackside support at select events. They are a dedicated group and this is our way of saying thanks,” said Erik Buell, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of Buell Motorcycle Company.

Details of the 2006 Buell contingency program, including the racer registration form, will be posted on buell.com on January 23, 2006.

The link for the 2006 rules is now working. I guess it's a rough draft. The "Official" one comes out Jan. 3rd.

I read through the tentative Rules and Regs for 2006 for CCS and it appears as though most race prepped Buells will be eliminated from CCS's Lightweight SuperSport class. While bone stock XB9's & XB12's will still qualify, any XB model Buell with any kind of motor work (1169 pistons, Millenium cylinders, higher compression, valves, etc.) are no longer permitted. The CCS classes that remain for modified XB's are Lightweight Superbike, Lightweight Grand Prix, Thunderbike, and Supertwins. Oh well!

ASRA Sportbike and Thunderbike have changes. ASRA Sportbike adopts the same rules that exclude modified XB's in CCS. The Thunderbike class, that Estok won this year, added a rule that would allow ARSA to change the horsepower-to-weight ratio on any bike during the season. The competitors would have 30 days to comply. Also, Three cylinder, air cooled, non-fuel injected bikes up to 1200cc are now allowed to compete.
