Damn. Why didn't I think of that? It would have saved me from having to do a midnight material procurement operation, and it would have saved the Zion Baptist Church from having to replace their "Reserved for Pastor" parking sign... rt |

No hugger fer me, but I did make up an alloy plate a bit like Thing's . . .also a lil plate to cover the rear of the oil bag -- that plastic is pretty sturdy stuff, but, in the gravel infested roads up near Road X, I noticed some pretty serious dings in the oil bag -- so I made an ablative shield fer it -- I'd just as soon keep most of the oil in the bike, thanks ;-} from what the news folks say, the south of France is not a pleasant place to be recently! |

I love the hugger! Say Bomber, could you give me a few details on what's involved to relocated the voltage regulator? I never did like the factory location. |

DJ -- you betcha! I searched for a location that would leave the poor dear open to at least some airflow (I figured they didn't put those cooling fins on it for no reason at all) -- the pic shows it's location fairly well -- I had to bend up an alloy place to mount to the holes that the tailsection previously used for location, but that was (for me, at least) fun . ... as part of getting the lil dear located, I found that the wiring harness wouldn't reach quite that far (natch!) -- I simply cut the wires, spliced in some more (I was lucky and was able to preserve the color coding), soldered and heat shrunk em up, and covered it all with some similar to the factory braided wiring loom material -- been runnin it that way for about a year -- I'm sure I left out something cruicial, so holler with any questions ... oh, yeah, I was careful to run the grounding wire all the way to the unit itself -- I know these things die quickly with a good ground, and three wires in the loom rather than two wasn't a big deal, while counting on it grounding itself on the frame, didn't seem like a good bet to me btw, it would be deadnuts ez to mount it in the old S! (?) position, on the side of the battery, but I wanted it further outa view |

in my fight to increase the power/weight ratio of the poor old nail, I've been removing things that are non-mission cirtical (you'd be surprised at how may there are), and replacing things that ARE necessry with lighter things -- this year, I made a new chain guard out of lighter (thinner) alloy stock -- I was told that I may have gone to tin on the stock, as it lept from the bike (vibration-induced stress fracture is plain to see on the remaining bit) in a very spirited manner and hurled itself to the road. sadly, it landed right next to my better half's foot as she followed me through Michigan -- got her really alert ;-} I made a replacement of slightly thicker stock, and it lasted about a month -- until it lept etc etc etc, landing you know where, next to you know who, during a spirited ride the the Galena area -- it was gently suggested that perhaps I should 1 make the next version (Mk3) out of still more robuest stock, or 2 let he lead, so as to avoid the trail of aluminum left in my wake girl may have a point, hey? |

One vote here for the Fenderless look! I built a stainless steel rock protector that fits onto the swingarm. When removing the inner fender rocks end up sticking to the tire and chip away at the paint on top of the swingarm. I'm going to convert over to the newer style swingarm so I will have to build another one to fit the new swingarm.

Nice ride & nice work on the rock protector. That derby cover really sets off that side of the bike too. |

That protector looks great, H-guy. That with a stainless belt guard might be just what the doctor ordered. Still a little tough to justify when I generally run with bags, though. |

Thanks, It works pretty well for a quick fix. The SS protector thats on my bike now will be available on the forum to someone once I get the new swingarm installed. What do you think for the new style swingarm, polished or paint it orange like it is now? I've been going back and forth. Hodakaguy |

Tough call. The newer swingarm might be too much orange. Polished will loses the nice orange lines you have now. Polished with orange highlights? The hardest option, but it would really be a nice touch. |

I think the polished swingarm would look fine, but I also think it would look good black to match your primary, cam cover and pipe. Easy rider is right, I think the s/a painted orange might be to much orange in the back unless you balanced it with some orange in the front! Whatever you decide, your bike looks sweet! |

Thanks for the ideas. I really like the look of the newer style swingarm over the original one. I also like the idea of having the new swingarm part polished/part painted. I'll have to work up a few sketches to see what design would look good. Not having a rear fender sure is a pain when you hit some water, it can ruin a good detail job real fast! Thanks again for the ideas! Hodakaguy |
