Fitted a rear fender extender to the Uly. Was tired of a wet and muddy back. Its a Touratech part, made for the 1200GS

It's part #044-0240 Rear spray guard for an R1200 GS. Price is $17.50 This is from the Touratech USA website. I think I'll get one for my Uly. |

Actually the Touratech plate is sized to fit a Euro lic plate. If you look behind the Uly lic plate location, there is a bracket that slides down with the reflector on the end. Looks like its made to support a Euro lic plate if need be. Very slick. I just moved it down, used two of its three screws to mount it on the lic plate holder, and drilled a third hole to bolt the extender to it at the bottom. Road the bike on some muddy dirt/gravel roads today. Back of the bike, and the back of my jacket stayed clean !! The Extender is located flush to the top of the lic plate holder, so no reason to have it any lower. (Message edited by FrankF on December 11, 2005) |

Frank- Any chance you could post some full profile shots to see how the whole bike looks with it mounted? Thanks! |

Frank, also comes in handy if you want to add something to go around the license plate or more. I adding a frame that says Certified Asphalt Surfer along with a light bar for more visibility. |

Does the fender extender drag when you wheelie? |

I bet if you put a couple of skate board wheels on either side, it would make a great wheelie bar. No worries about going over. |

Tee Hee If any of you pansy asses ever road your bike off road or in the rain, you'd appreciate not being a wet back. The hell with what it looks like. |

"you'd appreciate not being a wet back" Being of Mexican decent I take offense to that statement......LOL |

I have ridden much in the rain and mud, but reckon I have never gone slow enough to be sprayed by my own wake/roostertail. |

Geez Frank, relax man. If I rode like you I'd have one of those puppies to. I do ride in the rain though and haven't had to much trouble with the "wet back". I imagine the bags take care of a lot of that. I do consider the wheelie question to be valid though. Have you put your Uly on it's back wheel with the extension on it? Steve |

Have not put my bags on yet, so don't know if that would make a difference. Wheelies??? Not my style. Can't tell you. I'll leave that to the squids in the group. |

"Wheelies??? Not my style. Can't tell you. I'll leave that to the squids in the group." That's fair enough. I'm sure the squids will leave the fender extenders to the cranky wetbacks. |

A strange group we have here.....fun, but strange. Cranky?? Naw, just got a NY attitude. I'll have to make a BRAGG event some day to see what the typical Bueller is like. Got the feeling it might be a little different from the local HOG group I'm used to. |

I'm not sure Frank but I get the impression that a BRAGG event would be alot like the Bad Web, only faster. I ride a bit faster than I type (I hope!). What's a guy from California doing with a NY attitude? |

Was born there. Its hard to be a layed back, Calif dreamer, after you have some NY attitude in your blood, Brooklyn that is. |

"I'll have to make a BRAGG event some day to see what the typical Bueller is like. Got the feeling it might be a little different from the local HOG group I'm used to." OMG, I hope so! No assless chaps should be allowed at BRAGG events! LOL, Steve |

Only wives should be required to wear assless chaps for comparison purposes. |

I'll be the first to agree, that its butt-ugly. Tell me another solution that works better ?? I'd like to see one of those tire hugger splashes like the GS's have. |

Frankf: I agree with you completely about the rear hugger. I wonder if we might be able to convince Al over at American SportBike to work one up for us... Does anyone with access to a GS know if we might be able to adapt that part for the Uly? |
