I hear alot about the fuel venting system causing problems similar to vapor lock, or vacuum loss. Can anyone tell me where this fuel venting system is located. Are they talking about the overfill tube that exits down by the footpegs? Any help is appreciated. The wife's Blast is running terrible.

Fuel tank venting issues are with the California models only.Do you have a California model?
The tank is vented by the tube that runs off the top of the tank by the gas cap. If this tube is kinked or clogged it will give you problems (easily cured by gas cap removal on non Cal models).
Try running the bike with the gas cap loose to see if the problem goes away (non Cal only).Be Careful!
If it is a California model the fix is slightly more complicated!

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
My brand new Blast (under 100 miles) is running terrible after storage, either it doesn´t start (if I open the gas cap it will start most of the time) or if it does start the engine dies after a few seconds.
It almost looks as if it were out of gas (tank´s almost full if you´re wondering)
I'll appreciate any help on where to start.

Sounds like a clogged fuel tank vent. If you have a California model this is more than likely your problem.

I bought it new here in Illinois so I don´t think it is a California model, but how can I tell?
Anyway, what is the proper to fix it? It is a little bit difficult to see where the vent ends.

Thanks for your input.

The line coming out of your tank on top side - could be partially obstructed by a piece of errant hose, or the hose kinked some where - also check the vacuum plug on the carb for seal.

I think I just had the same problem with my new-to-me S2. When it failed to start, I disconnected the hose where it connects to the gas cap lid. With a full tank of gas, and sitting in warm sun, you could hear a hiss. The hose was kinked where it went under the triple tree. Re-routed the hose, did some other minor maintenance, and now its fine.

Thanks for your input. I'm afraid there may be something else wrong, I can get it to start by opening the gas cap lid or by disconnecting the fuel vent but the idle is terrible and the engine keeps dying. I'll have to contact the dealer.

Keeps dying - hmm could it be the dreaded intake leak? (also the carb vacuum line plug - facing forward on the bike, on the carbs left side is a vent line coming out that is capped - replace cap) - sometimes the intake boot will be loose because not tightened when uncrated, or it may be defective and have a crack - go figure why - spray WD40 around this area and if there is a change in RPM then you have found your culprit - although if it is just loose it might not show these signs - so try tightening (don't over tighten though - like you would do on an auto hose clamp). Hope that helps!

Got my blast back from the dealer. They said that the autoenricher was not working properly and replace it under warranty. It's running fine now.
Very good service in Illinois HD/Buell by the way.

My 02 Blast was pulsing slightly @ 70mph and high rpm. I removed the hose from the tank and it ran better eventually. It has always made hissing noises when it's just turned off.
I did take apart and clean all parts of the gas tank 4 weeks ago.
Can I leave this hose off?
If not where should I route it?
I bought it w/ the hose on the left when the manual shows it on the right.

You can leave it off, but the question is is it clear? If its clear and not kinked or plugged then leaving it off wont do any good. See if the rollover tank valve isnt plugged. A suck and blow through the vent tube will tell you if its plugged (if you get sick easy, this isnt recommended).
If you crack the gas cap open and the problem goes away, then its venting. If the rollover valve is faulty it can also be eliminated (modified). Its only there to stop gas from pouring out if the bike is on its side. It doesnt affect running (unless its clogged).

You can run the tank vent hose anywhere you want. Preferably ending up pointed at the ground. You can also buy a tank vent, which is a 3" piece of hose with a valve at the end. Its made for dirtbikes. Unfortunately they can go bad too.

I've used two. One went bad after about a year, the other's been fine. Sycho had his go bad too. But they are cheap and work.

I have a California bike with similar problem, but canister removed. Need to turn onto reserve at 70 miles.

Make sure the tank vent works. Some Blasts also had a defective rollover (vent) valve in the tank (your profile doesnt say what year Blast) and it was recalled.
Otherwise the problem is a mystery thats been attributed to faulty petcocks, contaminated gas, vent issues (and some other things I cant remember).
I'm assuming of course that it isnt due to poor mpg and you're only having to fill back up with a little more than a gallon to get off reserve.
