Hey guys,
I was just looking over my belt, and noticed a small hairline crack on what appears to be the outer most layer. It looks almost as if the glazy lamination layer has the crack. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the avergae life is of the 06 drive belt? Also, what signs should I look for before the belt snaps? Ive heard too many storied of Buell owners saying, "well my belt finally broke yesterday..." I just dont want to get stuck out in the middle of nowhere.
I was actually thinking of coating the outside of the belt with vasaline to prevent weather damage from temperatures shifitng from one extreme to the other. How does that sound?

Adam,
If you have the 06 belt on your bike you have NOTHING to worry about. When you look closely at these belts, you might thing that they are wearing or cracking, but I think its just the nature of a rubber belt. You might even see a little black residue/flakes. Its all normal. Unless you are dumping the clutch and popping wheelies at every stop light, you belt will last a long time.

I snapped my 04 belt with 7K on it, but I don't think the 06 belt I put on there is going to break anytime soon. That thing is pretty tuff compared to the original. I also do wheely just about everywhere.
