Very nice : ).

One question.... Did you have any strips left on your front tire? I've dragged the edges of my boots around corners but I can't seem to get rid (not that I'm specifically trying anyway) of about 1/64" of chicken strip on my front. That's through four fronts at 34 pounds pressure. Of course you're running a Dunlop though, so maybe it doesn't matter anyway : ).

I was thinking those were Pilot Powers.
M1, the only way I got rid of the front chicken strips, was to hang off the bike less.

Darktwin79 - Great pics, I can't wait to do a track day. What suit model and boots are you wearing? Any other suggestions? I'm just looking for future use.

Don: Tires were completley used both sides, I tend not to hang off the bike as much as other bigger riders. Next month i'm going to run a stock seat instead of the custom seat. This way I will be able to move around more.

Glitch: Those effects are cool! You are correct about the tires being Pilot Powers, I was running them cold at 29 rear,31 front. Once they got warmed up they stayed at 32/34 all day.

JAK: The leathers and boots are all Alpinestars,
the jacket is a P-1, the pants are trackpants that zip to any A-Star zipper equipped jacket, Gloves are SP-1's and the boots are GPS 3's.
The best advice I can give is, get what fits snuggly because it will strecth.

Thanks for the positive feedback
J

I run Pilot Powers also. At the last trackday the organizers suggested 26lbs. in the rear and 31lbs. in the front to everyone running this tire!

I thought they were nuts! There were three in our group running these tires on radically different bikes. I'm on an XB12R, one friend rides an SV650 and the other rides a ZX10. Well we did as we were told and all three of us had dynamite grip all day long! It really seemed like a leap of faith since I was very comfortable with Dunlops at 30/30 on trackdays.

Try it, you'll like it!!mam

J,
I have found that the XB responds well to a "radical" riding style which was difficult for me being of the "Mike Hailwood" school (ie. knees in, elbows in, a$$ on the seat) However you will find that the angles of lean achievable on the XB will quickly exceed the ability of many tyre types to maintain grip especially once you start "riding on the writing"....and it looks like your close allready!
On returning to the track after many years absence I had to learn the technique of "getting off" the bike, and while it was very strange at first, once I got used to it, my corner speed was increased hugely and the XB became even more fun. I find that the XB steering is slow under braking and again "getting off" encourages the bike to steer faster. There are disadvantages as you will need to have good knee sliders or your leathers will be destroyed and the elbows are under threat too....don't forget that if you can keep the bike close(r) to the vertical and the centre of gravity close(r) to the ground you will have more stability and grip and be able to increase corner speed. .....so hang off that mother and have some fun.

The bike will lean further but just to prove the point that elbow pads are indeed in danger on an XB : ).

That pic makes an excellent background BTW : ).

M1,
nice one....thats what I call a "radical" riding style!!
I reckon Darktwin's bike is leaned as far over as the bike in your picture but your guy is probably cornering 10-20mph faster.

Surveyor: Thanks for the tips keep them coming. Being my first trackday I wanted to get to know the bike at speed, and see how it handled without too much input from me. That being said and done I will start applying these radical techniques you are talking about throughout the next couple of trackdays. Now that I replay some of the day in my head I can see how it will help with cornering speeds as the scraping feelers kind of slowed me down. The tires were used end to end no sign of the arrows or michelin man anymore so I know the technique needs to be gradually adjusted. Thanks again.
Also i'm using the custom seat which I'll be switching out for the stock seat to see if I can get more feedback while hanging off plus it is a inch shorter and easier to move around on.

Jak: JET-HOT did them for about 90 bucks.

Don: Nice pic! I think he is leaned a bit further, notice no feelers. My bike will lean further! "SWEET" as Napoleon dynamite would say.
Later J}
