OK here is the frustrating problem, so I thought I'd share it with you guys Uly runs like a train most of the time, but occasionally at between 2500-4000 revs the tacho needle will jump and the bike will cut out completely. It backfires like mad so I know that fuel is getting through. Pull in the clutch, let the engine stop turning and hit the starter and it fires first time with no problems. There is no engine warning light and no stored trouble codes. I initially suspected the bank angle sensor but that has now been discounted. All the earths have been checked, as have the connections, engine kill switch etc. Now I am stumped |

Is this the Uly with the RapidBike adjustable ECM? 2500-4000 revs, is where I had a lot of trouble with the TFI. Standard or Race ECM? |

I'd also look first at the EFI module. |

Hi, yes it has the Rapid bike fitted with the stock ECM. Funnily enough during the two hours on the dyno it never missed a beat! It only does it on the road, which is a bitch to say the least. I'm going to run it without the module fitted tomorrow and see if there is any difference. |

Keep us up to date. Where does the RapidFire fit, does it install similar to the TFI? If it does, mine (the TFI) rubbed through on the earth wire. It was in a spot that was very difficult to see. I had to follow the wire feeling it with my fingers, rather than just looking at it. Mine never cut out though, when it would ground, it just ran like it was on one cylinder, or worse. But it didn't stop the engine. Best of luck! |

check the cam position sensor, and associated connector. give these wires and connectors a vigorous thrashing with the engine running, see if you can duplicate problem. |

I think Fullpower is on the right track, maybe an intermittent connection on the cam sensor could cause the tacho spike, causing the rapid bike microprocessor to reset or lose the plot until restarted. Another way of testing that theory is fit the rapid bike system to another bike. |

Trojan, have you had a win yet? |

Trojan, have you had a win yet? Unfortunately due to work commitments and less than ideal weather (it's bloody freezing!) I haven't had a chance to test it again yet. I did check the cam sensor connection and it appeared to be fine. If the weather looks a bit warmer towards the end of the week I'll try to give it a blast. |

Matt, I had similar symptoms with a loose plug boot (My fat fingers hadn't pushed it quite on) |
