Predius, It's a WestTek unit. I don't remember the original story but I've never seen one and it would probably have to be made-ot-order. Your other option is a Ventura rack setup which can double as a back rest. Note that with you leaning forward and the passenger leaning back they'll get a ton of air. Josh |

Josh: From what I can see, if I go with the touring bars I'll be pretty close to bolt upright on the S3T. My existing ride has a backrest which does 2 things for the passenger, one is give them something to lean against besides me to change posistion/etc, and the other is piece of mind that there is SOMETHING back there that will put up a little resistance when I twack the throttle hard on the my V65. : ) I haven't put much distance on an S3 yet (I wish someone rented them around here so I could take one for a weekend) and haven't had my passenger on so no idea if the backrest is 100% needed or not. If I can swing it I'm not going to trade my existing ride in so I'll have awhile to play without a rest to see if she is comfortable that way. I just want some options when it does come time as she didn't like the corbin rest I had on my bike, I've got a lower KG that she much prefers. It's similar to the WestTek above for posistion, but a bit larger. |

Hey guys I'm going to sound really dumb with this one....but here we go. I just put a new pair of Traction grips on my '96 S1 to replace my worn out stock ones. I'm having trouble understanding the service manual when they're describing how to adjust the throttle screws. I've been trying to logically figure it out all morning, but cannot seem to get it. The bike starts and runs, but there is a lot of play in the grip before the throttle picks up. It feels really loose. The other end of the throttle cable, at the carb, is also very loose. I've tried to tighten and loosen the two adjusting screws up by the grip to see if anything would tighten up, but it hasn't. I've got 8 hrs to wait while the adhesive dries...Can anyone help? |

Hi Guys, I have a quick Q: Does anyone have an opinion on the Crossroads handlebar, you know, the "billet" bar for 99'up M2?? Is the bar very or reasonably uncomfy?? I know that the answer probably lies in the archives but I'm on a borrowed computer... Cheers and thanks in advance/ Jonas |

Blake, I'll go for the Telefix Profi clip-ons.. they look really great. Do you have them on your bike? I'm asking cos' I need a measure... I need to know the height on the tube shaped part that is mounted on (around) the forkleg. Can you help me out on this? Anyway, thanks for the tip! /Jonas |

Yes I have them. The clamp is 1-5/8" tall. I flipped and swapped (left to right) the headlight brackets. See the Archive through May 21, 2001 for pictures. |

Does any one no which make and model adjustable brake and clutch levers from other bikes fit the tube frame Buells? I seem to recall that one of the Kawasaki's clutch levers was a match, but I forgot which one. Also, is the brake lever on a Cyclone interchangeable with a blast? |

Thanks Blake;-) Ken, the adjustable brake lever from a ZX9R around 95-96 is a perfect match (as long as you've got the Nissin brake..). Dunno about the Blast though! Cheers/ Jonas |

A dilemma ... Putting S2T bars (kit p/n 55899-94Y) on my '95 the brake reservoir hits the fairing seemingly no matter how I adjust the new T bars. Is there a fairing adjustment? Fork adjustment? Something I am missing? I've rotated the bars all the way back till there is about 1/4 in clearance from the tank and still no dice on the right side. Tried turning the brake reservoir and right throttle controls down but no good. Ideas? DAve |

Dave: I'm headed to the basement to look and I'm wagering several others S-2 owners will be as well. I'm sure there is something that you are missing or that is "outta whack" since this is a new one on me. Let's see what we can find out. Court |

Dave: I think you might have the bars flipped left-to-right (i.e., the right bar on the left tube, etc.). r-t |

Is anyone familiar with the "Basix" line of rearsets by Crossroads? The price is right, but it doesn't look like they have any provisions for moving the shifter or rear brake. Mike L '99 Cyclone |

Nope, not big detonators. This is the Polly Heater Kit, for snowmobiles. My girlfriend's Dad put these on his S3T and says they are great. I have the sticker/under the grip type on my S2 and although they work very well they would seem to be harder to install, seem as I have yet to put these on anything, and I am concerned about how well the wires hold up with prolonged use on the throttle side. These were $10 cheaper too. Polly Heaters, INC. 9409 Schiller BLVD. Franklin Park, IL. 60131 (847) 455-8654 |

Shift linkage question....Is there any difference in the shift linkage between the X1, S3 & M2? |

I know the X1 linkage is different. The pegs are further back than the S3 so the arm is longer. Not sure about the M2 though. |

All, I believe the X1 foot pegs are positioned farther back and higher than other models. I have a 2001 X1 and been wanting to switch to a 2000 or earlier X1 shifter. The reason why I want the old style shifter, is my riding position places my toes in a downward angle and if you lower the new linkage too low, you end up pushing the shifter forward and not upward. I'm thinking by having a shifter that pivots from the foot peg, like the brake lever, I can position it at any angle the adjustments allow. Any thoughts are suggestions. |

You'll be sorry if you switch to the old style shifter. I updated my 99 to the 01 shifter, and haven't missed a shift since. Neutral is easy to find now, even with a hot engine. But if you're dead set on it, I'm sure someone here will gladly trade you their old one for your new one. |

The old style shifter works well if you get the bronze bushings. They are a must have. |

S2 7/8" Controls Project! I'm dead set on converting my '96 S2 to 7/8" controls & grips. The newer Buell controls (I have Firebolt part #'s) are reasonably priced. I'm still looking for someone to convert the bars on my S2 clip-ons from 1" to 7/8", but I have a guy in mind to do the work. I understand that I'll need a 5/8" bore master cylinder, but I've got a line on one from an S1. So, any tips or words of advice as I embark upon this adventure? Any particular year or model of Buell 7/8" controls I should buy? (I'm partial to the new 'Bolt controls with the adjustable brake lever). If successful I will document with parts #'s, cost, pics, etc. in the event that others are interested. Roc, while I'm at it I'd like to add heated grips. It gets so chilly in the mountains North of Ojai (yes, they get snow up there) where the good roads hide. Let us know how your Polly grips work, eh? They look like they'd go in cleanly... |

Recently I bought the Buell Traction grips...I had been using foam grips for some time. While those were very comfortable...they made the front end feel pretty vague. The throttle drum supplied wasn't even close to working for a '96 S1...so the stock deal went on. I find them to be the most comfortable contour of any grip I've used. For the price they oughta be good. I also revised a custom linkage to the 2002 X1 type. Huge difference. Shorter throw and about the same effort as my reverse pattern Storz setup...only problem is it makes finding neutral tough...though can't complain about that while shifting! Jim...I really like the XB controls...IMO the best of the bunch. I love the brake lever and the signal cancel button especially. Very nice. About the throttle...compare drum sizes. They got smaller after a certain year...not sure which. I'm thinking '99. Anyway...it won't work well if it's the smaller type...unless you have a very flexible wrist. |

Rick, I bought some for my S1W and found the same thing. You can get the grips off the drum by using compressed air between it and the grip. The glue will let go eventually . Then just glue the new grip onto the old drum. PPiA |

Jim: I've been thinking about doing the same thing, so please keep us posted. As for master cylinder, both SV650 and GXSR (most of them) have 5/8 master cylinders. I think you can get a cheap Nissin these days also. I got a used GXSR master with remote reservoir for about $100. Henrik |

Rick_A, those are the grips I'd like to put on the S2. Peter's tip sounds doable. But I am concerned about taking an S1 5/8" bore master cylinder and getting it to fit and operate properly on an XB control set. Anyone know if this can be done? Or should I just get part #'s for '96 vintage S1 controls and buy a set of those (which should be bolt on for the most part). My other concern is that my S2 controls route both carb cables forward whereas the XB controls route them parallel to the bars. I am still mulling that one. Henrik, I found a welder right in SB who does some bike handlebars on the side. He took my spare stock clip-ons (I bought them off this site advertised as Touring - but they are identical to my stockers - oops - now they're donor parts) - he's cutting off the bars and will use them as a model for the 7/8" version which will be perhaps an inch taller (I hope) - giving me 7/8" touring bars. I will post pics and I guess I will need to keep a close eye on the welds... I have not found a set of clip-ons anywhere made by anyone that come close to being like the S2 stockers. Pretty unusual... |
