I think LBJ's biggest problem was that he wanted this whole thing to be under his control, and not congress, you're right. He likely felt (and was likely right) that congress would tell him to deep-six the entire thing . . . . that's why the reserves and Guard weren't called up . . those guys vote, after all . . . poor white trash and minorites don't (or, if they are under 21, can't) vote

add to that, up til 68 or 69, most of the electorate didn't want to know

Moore was one of the better field grade officers I heard about . . . most of them were only there to get their CIB, their ticket punched, and then off to war college . . . . .idiots . . . . .

see what happens when yhou poke an old vet with a stick, Kev?

I see it as a bunch of war pigs at the pentagon beating their chests for some action but knowing that the people didn't want it or didn't care so they couldn't do it right.

I think about every 20 years or so war just needs to happen. It's inevitable because man has no natural predators 'cept himself.

On msn.com this morning they were describing an interesting US demographic. Seems like the male population in the US is increasing. Historically a normal population is like 52% female and 48% male. Seems like Census 2000 says that there are now more males in the US than females, espcially out west. They say by 2010 it'll be pretty bad in some areas.

I just keep thinking that a little war in the middle east could even out our population. We seem to have enough Hawks in the govt to be headed this way.

Its evolution.

ikt's not just hawks in the govt, Chi . . . I know you read sacborg . . . . there's a whole poopload of men and women who are very ready to declare war right damn now, so long as they don't have to go . . . what a bunch of cowards . . .sheesh

it IS evolution . . . .I just hope that crew gets dinosaured outa here and soon . . . .

Ya John I think that's where I was going. Too many hombres just creates more of a social need for war. Everyone just feels right for a fight and any excuse will do.

I think your generation got the shaft because of the baby boom. All the elder statesmen suconsciously said, 'We gotta control these kids or our way of life is in trouble.' Too much Beatles, pot, and free love that wasn't anything like your depression/WWII parents.

All that said I truely believe something should be done in the Middle East but I think the UN needs to get a backbone and step up to the plate. Its the perfect opportunity for the UN to become something more than a rubber stamp.

Chi . . . on the UN, absofreakinlutely, brother . . . .it's on a par with the League of Nations right now . . . .

as for the shaft, I think you're giving the government way too much credit . . .I don't think they are that foreward thinking . . . just a negative stackup of tolerences . . . one of those plans that looked like a good idea at the start . . . . . opnly mistake we made was not cutting our losses and fleeing . . . . .

B 5-2 baby, way up in the sky, come drop your loving on me, child.

John, I'm not saying they are forward thinking I'm saying that the attitude was:

all these crazy kids don't know how f-in' good they have it compared to us (WWII/depression) lets make men of them and send them to Vietnam!

Pardon my interuption fellas.....

But I've heard some rumors that Windy City is thinking about trying to sneak into Brew Cities backyard to play on Sunday WITHOUT asking permission.(he,he,he) Now if you guys and gals want to come and play all you have to do is ask. Hell, we just might come and show you our secret roads. NAhhhhhh, if we did you would only be able to enjoy them once before you would diappear though.

Brew City was planning on going down to Highland House on Sunday, but we can play host if you want. Meet at the Buell Factory? 10:00 or 11:00 a.m.??? Sound good??? Let us know. We even have a secret new location for killer food and spirits.

East Troy is between 60 to 70 miles from Highland House by the superslab. Just take 94 West to 894 West to 43 West to East Troy and then North on 120(Church St.) and turn on Buell Drive to the Factory.

Sounds like a plan.

Brew City will meet at Hal's at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, kickstands up at no later than 9:15 a.m. Head to East Troy and the Buell Factory. Meet up with the Windy City and Uke's guys and gals around 10:00 a.m. and show them the Kettle.
Probably a lunch stop somewhere.
