My buddy and I just purchased the first two Ulysses models at our local H-D dealership. Mine seems to be fine but his is overheating (all indicators, headpipes way dark purple, plugs snow white, fan always on, etc). When we looked at the servo atop the airbox, it looks like mine was adjusted with no play in the cable, while my buddy's cable has tons of play....we are theorizing that some of his servo rotation is being taken up by the slack cable and thus it's not opening fully. Has anyone heard of this problem? If so, is it as easy as adjusting the cable? Can the damn exhaust servo be taken off or can we fit an aftermarket exhaust on it that doesn't have the servo valve? Thanks |

OTOH, I don't think a malfunctioning exhaust servo would make the bike run hot. Are you sure the bike's really overheating? Based on posts here, the fan does run continuously on most of these bikes until they are completely broken in. Is it knocking under acceleration? |

Or just take the bike back to the dealership and get it serviced properly. If there is a problem it should be fixed under the initial warranty, and doubly so if the problem surfaced in the first month and first 1,000 miles of ownership. Then let us know how they do for you. |

I called Kevin Drumm at kdfab.com and he was very helpful...turns out this is a common problem with the servo cable being out of adjustment. The muffler exhaust gate doesn't open fully and the heat just builds and builds...a dead give-away is if your cooling fan comes on all the time while you're riding down the road, you've got problems! I'm gonna fix the problem by getting one of his drummer mufflers. Oh, by the way, the dealer didn't know anything about the Ulysses (too new) or how to even work on it (yet), so that option didn't work. Thanks for the tip about calling Kevin Drumm! |
