Well, now i think i know why.Late this past season the X1 began with this symptom. When turning the key to "on"..nothing.Try again,or jiggle it,and it would light up and all would be ok.Well, while working on reassembly after servicing other multiple components, today i discovered the red/black stripe wire is fried. Do you think it's dying a slow death? And,when i replace it,what about the trunk? Will i require TWO keys'? Or is a locksmith of service here? |

I know Hootowl fried his. He added a relay, turn out all the current for the starter runs through the switch... |

Or the cheapo out. Part#32694-99Y IGNITION SWITCH lock set/w keys. That was indeed the best way.The dealership needed(and had on file) my VIN# so they could match up the new keyswitch($119.) to my key number. Add a relay haaaaa...How do you do that? essentially making the keyswitch low amperage? and the relay high? |

Ducxl, you already have a starter relay. Just change the switch. |

I know I'm coming in late here but... The starter relay carries the current for the starter, but the solenoid current runs through the ignition switch. The contacts that burned out in your ignition switch carry the current for the solenoid. The relay I added lets the current for the starter solenoid bypass the ignition switch. I went through a battery, a solenoid kit, and a starter before I realized that it was my ignition switch that was causing the problem. |
