I made this oil catcher out of a 1/2 Gallon milk carton for removing the oil filter on my M2. It straddles the pressure sender mounting boss and will catch all the oil that runs out when you unscrew the filter.
I loosen the filter about 1/2 turn, push the catcher up against the sender boss and crank case, and unscrew the filter letting it drop into the milk carton body. Worked great! Jack |

The easiest way to get the shape and fit right is to fine tune the fit a little after the filter is off. But I got it close to right with the filter on and then did a little more trimming with it off. Then second time I used it I don't think I spilled a drop. I lay a rag over the VR and stuff a rag into the housing as soon as I get the filer off. The housing seems to produce a slow but steady drip with the filter off. Jack |

We are tool-making animals... (By the way, good idea, I can't bear to spend $16 for the H-D factory piece of plastic for this ! ) |

A paper plate curved and cut works well also. SteveH |

I use the long filter and poke a hole into the bottom with a little screwdriver. With the bike on the kickstand, the oil misses the cases when it drains out. No oil mess at all when I unscrew the filter. This trick works on any filter, btw. Even on my GMC truck with a vertical filter, I always poke a little hole in it first before I unscrew it. It makes replacing all oil filters much less messy. |
