I took my 1st and 2nd rides ever on my 99 S3 this weekend and am really loving it! I haven't used anything on the seat, but it is so slippery I am having a hard time staying put (the a-hole used bike dealer probably armoralled it)! It is so slick I don't think a passenger could stay on it, but would probably pull me off too! Any suggestions for something that will clean, protect and add some grip? VHT? Velcro? Tar? Oh I know....Bungee cord! |

try some dish soap -- it'll strip wax, it may help with whatever's on the seat -- |

thanks, once I have the slippery stuff off, what can I use to protect the leather without the slip? |

After you clean off the slippery stuff, try rubbing the seat with a tack rag, a resin impregnated type of cheesecloth available at paint or hardware stores that's used to pick up dust and impurities on surfaces just prior to painting. That'll make it grippy for sure. |

Scott -- don't quote me, as all will attest that I'm wrong, and often, but I don't beleive your seat is covered in leather. It's made from teh skins of perfectly innocent Naughas -- there are lots of prodcuts available to protect plastics out there, but I don't know of one that isn't slippery to one degree or another I just try to keep mine clean-ish, and let it go at that -- |

Bomber, you are most likely right! Poor naughas...... The tack cloth idea is worth trying though. As far as protectants, any of them less slick than others? Thanks |

Try a baseball rosin bag They are at sporting good stores, if you don't have one. About $5 |

My advice, just clean it. Wipe dry with towel to avoid spotting, & don't let dry in sun. I worked for years at a car restoration/upholstery manufacturer, ( Mopars mostly , Legendary Auto Interiors. ) All the "armor all" type stuff wrecks the vinyl, sooner rather than later. Even the stuff that claims U/V protection dries out the vinyl years sooner than just cleaning with a damp rag when dirty. Cracks follow. Dealers have no interest in making your vinyl last forever. Shiny looks new, so out comes the spray bottle. Besides, when the vinyl dies, you take it to a custom shop & have them re-pad it ( gel insert! ) & you can then use leather if desired. Try Ostrich. |

thanks Aesquire, back in the day I had a big block 68 charger. Yep, I killed the interior with armorall.... I actually made my own solo seat for my gpz 550, came out pretty good too (my daughter helped)! http://photobucket.com/albums/a117/scottskis/?action=view¤t=100_0670.jpg I was already thinking about watching for a cheap seat and trying something similar for my Buell. |

Here's a site dedicated to stopping the slippery seat syndrome: http://www.triboseat.com/fitment.htm More of a high-end solution maybe... |

thanks, doesn't look like they offer any tuber seats though. No matter, I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, just trying to pay more attention to where I am going when I gas it, and less attention to just staying on the bike! |

Maybe your riding pants could use some tactile patches? |

My leather pants would probably stick well on their own (haven't tried them yet), but my Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants are the ones slipping (great all around pants for anybody looking to purchase). Are you suggesting Velcro? Maybe a bungee cord?.... I'm going to clean it and was also thinking it may be less slippery when it is actually above 40F ! |

Maybe try eating jelly donuts and wiping your hands on the seat of your pants? That'd be the morning/breakfast treatment, for lunch try BBQ ribs. Seriously though, I can attest that leather riding pants will definitely do the trick. |
