Check out this RIG:

I made a "box" out of 2x6 with fairly exact cutouts to fit the muffler, and added sweatshirt material as padding. Then cut the leftover of the board in half and attached to the bottom of the box. Made it to fit into a single car wheel dolly(fits wheel up to 15" ). Lifted the front of the bike with a "come-along" and a doubled up piece of strap material wrapped through the handlebar mount, slid the "rig" under and let her down.

Fits like a freakin glove. Notice in the pics that there are NO STRAPS!!!. I trust this more than the kickstand. It's rock solid. I can grab the bars and move it around on the castors.

Maybe I'm pattin' myself on the back, but it works real good.

so here's the pics:

This last pic shows where the wood is cut to fit the idler pulley.

p.s. In order for this to work, the fit around the muffler has to be nearly perfect.

Thanks for the the thread. If it isn't too much trouble can you take pics of the stand alone with side shots. I read your material list but was a little confused on how you got it up by itself w/the one roller wheel. Thanks !!!!!

Matthew,
Sorry, that wasn't real clear. The thing with the four casters is actually a car dolly meant for one car wheel to fit into(in pic 3, you can see the curve of the dolly which roughly matches the shape of a tire). You can buy those at lots of places. I made only the wood part.

Wheel Dolly

As for pics without the bike, that will have to wait. Today I plan to remove the wheels so I can have new rubber put on(hopefully next week). I will post some pics after she's all put back together.

"sell them!"

Not on this site without becoming a sponsor.
Besides, it was too easy to make. Anyone could do it.(given proper tools)

Tank,
Any chance you could send us the dimensions and a template for the muffler cut out?

I'll see what I can come up with. My flatbed scanner is PMSing right now. If I can get it fixed, I should be able to e-mail some simple drawings and a template for the muffler on one page. The drawing will not be to scale, but the template should be.....stay tuned.

Awesome, that is exactly what I've been needing for my size challenged garage. I'm looking forward to seeing the template.

O.K., here's what I got so far.

It aint great.....but it is what it is.

Drawing(not to scale):

XB stand drawing

Muffler cross section template:

XB muffler template

After printing out the template, make darn sure the measurements are correct.

It should measure(inches):
7 1/8 at the widest point
4 3/4 tall

The line through the template is roughly where the top of the board should be.

(Disclaimer: )
I take no responsibility if you make this thing, put your bike on it, and your bike ends up in the floor. The one I made works well for me. This is not my original idea; I originally saw a post by another Badwebber some time ago and it worked for them. Be careful out there.
(Disclaimer: off)

If you want an e-mail in Jpeg format so you can re-size, flip, rotate, etc., let me know and I'll be glad to send it to ya. The scan I made is actual size, but I have had some trouble getting it to print actual size. Somewhere in the process it picks up an extra margin, and the template ends up an inch too small.

Cool idea. I think I would make sure the thing is long enough to have the muffler cutouts under both jack points. You may crush the pipe if you don't support it where they tell you to jack the bike up.

Dragon,
That was one of my main concerns!

The jack points are exactly 11" apart. I would have thought they would be farther apart, but the measurin' stick don't lie.

I just ran across the info. Great job. I am also one of the ones wondering what the heck to do with my floor jack. Now I know! Makes me wonder how I can make this set up low enough to fit to my floor jack and then get it under the muffler?? Now if I could only remember where I put the saw.....

Thanks Tank...just what I needed. I'm going to adapt it to my pump jack. I really appreciate it if you would PM the Jpeg file. Thanks

Steve

question, this looks like a great way to store the bike for the winter but is there any negative effect on the isolators with having the weight of the bike pushing on them (versus just the motor pulling on them)for long periods of time?

Good question Mike!

I would guess that since the muffler is designed as a jack point, that it shouldn't be a problem.
