Has anyone ever used a Cherry Bomb style automotive muffler on their bike? I'm the quintesential tight-wad and my V&H ($350) keeps desintigrating on me, so I thought why not put a solid steel glass pack ($49.99)on and be done w/ it? Rob |

Yeah...but the lead blanket wrapped about the motor erodes performance.

I am working on a cherrybomb exhaust. I will post the results when I finally finish. So far I have spent $30 on the project. |

It has been done here and looked ok. I think they are kinda heavy though when compared to an aftermarket exhaust. |

I have a cherry bomb slapped under one of our blasts right now. The surgery hadn't gone too well and I hurt the muffler a bit while welding (bad welder I am). Dunno what ya wanna know....... -Saro PS - I too was dealing with a disintegrating V&H can. |

Yeah Koz, Tha's just what I'm thinking. Weld a hanger on the back and fab an inlet and you're good to go. Essthreetee, my V&H has come apart several times (once the rivets at the front, twice the rear hanger broke off and now the front rivets again) Yesterday I took a 4" wide chromed muffler clamp deisgned for diesel stacks and squeezed the can and rivets back together and we'll see how that works. can you say? pole vault?! maybe the front pipe can be salvaged and welded to the CB, the hose clamp thing sounds like some thing to get home with, carefuly...... ask wyckedflesh about failures particulary in that area, can you buy the V&H on e-bay used? Koz the 2 top mufflers look sorta like D&D units yes? |

I still have the short system hanging around the garage. I made it to fit the old style front mount, so tweaks to the existing brackets may be needed. Rattle can paint finish was for test rides only. This puppy is loud! If some body wants it, let me know. |

No the top two units were fabbed by Gundog. I will be making an attachment to replace my WileyCo can for certain events. Since I have the new model, which the can just slips on too the elbo, I would like to make a minimally baffeled pipe that I could swap quickly |

Rob, I did just what you want a while back. 2000 miles ago. I used an aftermarket 2 1\2 inch straight through fiberglass packed car muffler from Summit or Jegs and welded a 2 1\2 inch bend to the header. VHT aluminum paint and my own hangers. (See my hanger fix, 4th one down in the KV). Paint matches the cases for looks. The sound is throaty but not objectionable. The cost was about 40 bucks. Durable as all get out. For something more exotic you can get these car mufflers in SS, carbon fiber and aluminum for considerable more money if you choose. Also easy on and off with SS clamps. I will try and post a better picture soon. Bob T. |

Picture for above. My hangers (stiff springs), both sides, have completely eliminated all breakage of parts and studs. Looks; you decide. Bob |

If I can find a camera up here, I will post some pics of my D&D, l;ooks like a bullet actually... Besides...after being next to Tripp's bike, with his Force(didnt have the baffle), the D&D IS louder...I think Nathan, Signguy and Tripp will atest to this...maybe this is why I cant hear squat? Oh well, you could always do to your stoock can, what Signguy did to his...sounds nice, without being intrusive... Chase |

I like the spring idea and I've got a bunch of them laying around from some old disc drills that look like they'd work good. Thanks guys, this is just the kind of information I was looking for. Rob |

The first two are the fabled "Bullet" muffler. I bought my first for $100, and had to have it replaced because of breaking mounts. I traded them off to another Badwebber The second shorty I had fabbed up at a local Hot Rod shop. It turned out to be a bigger project than I wanted. After a trial fitting, and ride around the neighborhood, the wife helped me to decide I might want something more mellow. So now it sits. |

I saw one that looked like the straight pipe from trich as shown above, it sounded good, didn't hear how it was when he whomped on it though. My force is still eating exhuast brackets so I am going the BT route and trying some springs, will post when I get it one there. |

Devdawg. How about a trade of a couple of T shirts from SurfnSea in Haleiwa? It will give you a chance to get up to the Northshore. Dale |

I've got an automotive Supertrapp affixed with a big stainless strap type clamp from NAPA. My race bracket broke so I got rid of the front rubber mount altogether and made a solid one out of a basin wrench (had the right bend!). I used automotive style U-clamps for front and rear. They're big, heavy, and ugly but will definitely not break! |

Dale, I can do that...send me an IM or email with sizes, color and any other special instructions. Can always use a good reason to get up to the North Shore, maybe stop at Cholo's as well...... Carl |

Here is My version. I bought a glasspack blank from the local muffler shop, along with a 3" 90 deg. mandrel bend of pipe. The muffler body is 4" in dia and 12" long. The ID is 2 7/8". I fabbed a solid rear mount and used the factory race header clamp up front. After welding the front and rear pipe sections to the muffler body, I molded all of the welds on the pipe. It sounds unreal! Not too loud at an idle and during normal throttle roll on. Roll on power fast and it comes alive. Best part about it is total dollars invested $55. I'll try posting an MPEG with some audio of the bike running. Meanwhile, here's a pic. (Message edited by Cyclonemaniac on August 09, 2005) |
