Sounds like an intake seal leak. Set her at a fast idle once warmed up and spray WD40 all around each intake manifold seal and at the carb boot. If idle drops, you have identified the culprit. |

Blake, I seem to have the same problem on my X1M. But only when the bike is nice and hot. I've already chnaged all the seals and gaskets (in an attempt to solve my slow return to idle, still not fixed). Any ideas? I'm putting on a new O2 sensor today. I've run out of things to do! I'm trying to fix my idle issue, but cant help hearing the bike knock everytime i leave a light. Thanks you always for making this site possible |

No, thank everyone! And of course our sponsors! Even a properly tuned engine will knock and grind like a diesel if you let the revs drop way too low. Still, it's a good idea to test for intake leaks. And on a DDFI system, there is always the dreaded miscalibrated ECM/TPS . |

Kahuna, My X1 used to knock really bad when leaving stoplights. All went away when I increased the octane level in the gas. Just a suggestion. |

Thanks Brent, I'm already using the highest at the pump. I'm changing the O2 sensor tomorrow. We'll see where that takes us. Was going to do it tonight, but it looks like I'll need a flare nut or crowfoot socket to do the job. Cheers |

Kahuna, What is the temperature and humidity like when you have slow return to idle? My bike hovers around 2000 rpm's for a couple of seconds the slowly drops back to idle. It only does this on very hot and humid days, acts normal on mild days no matter how hot the motor is. I always blamed it on the weather, let me know if otherwise. |

First thing I would check in an engine that's pinging would be the ignition timing |

Good point "Bullit". In DDFI that would mean the cam position sensor. It should be dead on the factory specified setting. |

Jdbuellx1, this is what I found. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/3591.html?1030193008#POST118514 The following was added by admin for when the link breaks upon archiving, an irritation soon to be remedied by the new version of the board software...
Quote:"I have no idea how this fixes it, but Sparky is bang on!!! Alhough I have reset the TPS twice already, backing out the idle screw was the fix!?? bike idles great now. I have a feeling that my dealer is not doing the TPS zero correctly. Thanks guys!"
