Ride on the balls of your feet, not the middle of the foot. This will prevent accidental shifts and braking and will keep your toes from dragging in the corners. |

JQ, There's that awesome photo of you again, tearing up the asphalt. Wow. That is probably the most leaned over I've ever seen a street tire shod S3. Did you make it through that one okay? Super Sport Enthusiasts, Check out RRW's writeup on the new CBR600F5. Sounds impressive, ten lbs lighter. We'll see. They say Honda went with conventional forks because testers found inverted forks too stiff? Uh... use smaller inverted forks? yeah blake I saw that too but I wonder where that leaves BBoz. I read rumors that he is talking to Aprilia but nothing substantial as of now |

Either BBoz needs to take a year off and learn to race on competitive tires, or Dunlop needs to figure out how build him some competitive tires. The Dunlops just aren't cutting it any more at the world level. |

Quote:...any of you done any extended riding on the Xb? What is a 500-800 mile day like...
Can't compare it to the M2, but my longest stretch so far has been 600+ miles in a day. At highway speeds the wind keeps weight off my wrists, which is great. Some discomfort from having my legs in one position (I had luggage strapped to the passenger pegs). After 8 or 10 hours my backside is a bit sore. Good aerodynamics. Crosswinds barely move the bike, and wind & rain hit heaviest around the shoulders. In my opinion, the XB is comfy up to 300-400 miles. After that I start lusting for highway pegs and a softer seat. If the road is twisty, it's a great ride all the time! Hope this was helpful. |

Questions - I've seen a product that wraps around a bolt head and then provides a place to safety wire it, made of sheet metal. Can anyone tell me where to find these? I'm tired of trying to drill through some very tough bolts. |

Rotate shifter lever up a notch or two or better yet simply switch to GP shifting to prevent the tarmac from accidentally initiating a shift into neutral (ask FB about this one.) you gotta be pretty quick on the draw to save the bastard when THIS happens! re: BattleTrax prep, all of the above is good advice, most of the mental preparation will get lost in the fog when the green flag drops, taking the first few passes relatively slowly so as to learn the course works good for me. i also like to take the bike out for a lengthy spin before hand, to get some heat in the tires (especially important for D205's, etc.) the first time i Battle Trax'd i had SERIOUS forearm pump, so much so that by the end of the course i could barely operate the front brake or clutch as a result. ps: remember when Michelin Race Pilots were new on the scene? a buddy (hi Erich Martin at Bartels' :-) scored me a set of barely-used take-offs during Laguna WSB Saturday qualifying a few years back, and it was on these very tires that i took Top Time at the BattleTrax at Santa Cruz Buell later that afternoon. Erik Buell was on hand for the festivities, and giggled like i little kid when i whispered, "Hey, take a look at the zoomy meats I'm running against these guys!" these tires only lasted about a thousand miles, but man they were FUN miles! Just installed Crossroads rear sets (Basix) on the M2. Looks really good, and it doesn't feel uncomfortable. I also ordered a set of telefix bars; waiting for those to show up and maybe I can start ripping the canyons with some confidence! |

Blake, Xgecko, Pammy, Chainsaw, Dynarider, Jeffh, Jose', Bull, Mikej, Josh (that was a mouth full)- Thanks so much for the good advice. I'm going to check all the easy stuff before I get one of those needle electrical tester things 'cause I'm sure it will take me just as long to figure out how to use it. Blake - Ignition module tip sensor? Try cycling it? How do I do that? Also, you struck a chord when you said to check my ignition fuse. The last time it wouldn't start I removed that very fuse. It looked okay so I gave it the customary quick "blow" and put it back in...the bike fired right up. Since the fuse looked fine I figured that wasn't it but maybe it was. Going for a ride tomorrow; will post. Although, would the starter motor turn if the ignition fuse was faulty/dirty? This board is great and I thank everyone (you all) who keep it going |

Fog, I cnfess I haven't been following your thread that closely and don't know what year and model Buell you have, but, I have a spare coil (new) that I can ups to you to try, its for a '99 S-3. If it's the problem you can pay me for the coil, if not, send it back, no charge. Tip over switch is actually called a 'bank angle sensor' and in the '99 S-3 parts cat. its part # 69528-99y Email me you shipping add. if you want to try the coil, paul1@harborside.com Paul |

That Snail feller is one helluva nice guy ain't he? Fog, the tip over switch reset on my '97 M2 is a little tiny white button. You may be right about the ignition fuse killing the starter. I almost suggested looking at and cleaning the kill switch, but that would affect the starter too. A pocket multimeter is pretty easy to learn, and they usually have pretty good instructions. You'll just be looking for DC voltage and resistance wrt ground and wrt the positive 12V feed. Others here are way more qualified than I to guide you, but if needed I'd be happy to help. |

Kevin: Its from a Yam R6; I had to cut off the rear subframe and reweld tabs to support the Yamaha piece. Its pretty easy, but it did take me a month to build the nerve to cut up the frame. I did it last November and have had no problems. I'll put up an updated picture as soon as I get the clip ons installed. |

Tav, Outstanding bike! I love what you did with the tail also. I've always thought the tail section on my M2 was visually it's weakest point, especially from the rear. It looks like you did a little surgery and welding to mount the new R6 unit. You must provide pics and a story about this...PLEASE! |

Just picked up the "Thunder Press", the free Harley newspaper, from the local dealer. It has a write-up of the Centennial Models which includes a bit about the Buells. On the demise of the tube-framed models, they include this: "an era that started ... in 1995 with the introduction of the Lightning S1." Who says Harley people don't know anything about Buells? |

Snail - you've got mail. Blake - Where would that tiny white button be? The bike wouldn't start, so I rapped on the fuses and relays (or whatever) next to the ICM. It started, but then failed later. More jiggling on the same plus the coil and it started again but wouldn't stay running (like I was out of gas but I wasn't). I don't know if this is all by chance or the knocking on relays/fuses/coil has some significance. It reminded me of Jose's issue - on the highway it did fine but when I gave it some RPMs in the twisties/inclines it coughed, backfired and almost entirely died, then acted fine again - weird. Oh, and get this: It died as I was enterring the HD dealer's parking lot. GREAT, except it stared right back up again. All this said, and all the frustration, I have to say that it always gets me back home which to me, makes a good day of riding (I just don't trust it to go too far from home right now) |

Hey guys, I'm guessing I have a fuel delivery problem with my 2000 S3. I was on the bike last night. It ran great. I parked it after a mild ride. Then this afternoon I went to run an errand and it wouldn't start. Cranks over but will not start. Nothing. I pulled a spark plug. Looks good. Bike has good spark. When I turn on the keyswitch I hear the fuel pump spin up, the check engine light stays on for about five seconds and then turns off. Normal behavior. Hit the button, it cranks like a champ but never fires up. Two days ago I ran out of gas as I mentioned here. Could there be a lingering effect of that somehow? Ideas? Later, Scott |

Fog, The little white button is on the tip (bank angle ) sensor which is mounted next to the ICM on your M2. Take off the tail section if necessary. You'll see it easily. Scott, Are you getting spark? |
