Hi border raiders, sorry to say that Linda & I won't be able to make it this year after all. We have been struggling with electrical problems on the beemer since we left on Tuesday, which left us stranded in the Dalles for a couple of days... the bike is at PMC now and won't be ready to run again until at least next week. This is the short version of a much longer and more twisted story that will have to be told over a few brews someday. We'll really miss riding & partying with you all! MG & LS |

Bummer about the Beemer Michael! Damn, I thought those bikes were bullet proof? Very disappointing for you guys, I'm sure. Glad I check the board before leaving as we would have wondered where you were. Thanks for the heads up. Take care and hope you get those troubles fixed. Lo |

Mike and I made it home at 3:30. We got up at 6am and by 6:30 we were on our bikes and heading for the border. We stopped a total of 4 times for gas and once to get a quick bite of lunch (about 15 minutes) in Yakima and then just one more time to lay under a tree for a quick break at about Hood River for 10 minutes. I could have laid there all day and actually fallen asleep. We kept a really good pace and kept moving. No major incidents and home in one piece without a ticket. Mike is already sleeping in the recliner - he is so tired - ok we both are. my butt is so sore! Hope everyone else made it home safe. This year was most excellent, I enjoyed the accommodations, our lunch in the country still has my mouth watering and Saturday/Sunday night was a kick in the pants. Mike and Linda - we missed you guys this year, I hope your back on two wheels soon. Kimberlie (Message edited by kimberlie on September 06, 2004) |

Special thanks to Loraine for a wonderful Lunch Sunday. And to SportyEric for realizing I had a bike problem and covering my backside. And to all my dear Splash/Border Raid comrades for great roads, great rides, and wonderful memories. Eau d'LO. In stores everywhere, the essence of bikerwomen. Just smell her hair. |

What a great weekend! We got back about 5:00 pm on Monday without any mishaps or anymore Officer Friendly encounters. It's back to the ol grind now. I've uploaded a couple of pix on the NorthWest thread, go check it out. I will let everyone know when the rest of the photos are up on my site. Thanks to Stu @ Deeley's for lunch on Saturday and a big thank you hug to everyone that made our weekend so much damn fun! Ride on, Lo (Message edited by additude on September 08, 2004) |

Hi Everyone! What a trip! Monday we left Pentiction and headed south to Osoyoos then east to Castleger, up to Nelson, across the ferry at Kootenay Bay and then south to Creston for Monday night. Thanks Johnboy for suggesting this trip! All I can say is WOW! Beautiful country, and for the most part, great roads. Thanks Fun Jimmy for encouraging me to do the ride and not worry about the miles! I think it was some where around Nelson that we were crossing a bridge and Chris started flapping his arms like he wanted to fly! I looked ahead and saw nothing but a dust cloud. A big semi (freighliner) carring crushed cars was coming down the hill towards the bridge and flipped over on it's side. By the time we got there the driver was out and thankfully OK. Chris said he saw the whole thing, said it was like slow motion. Tuesday we headed to the border crossing at Porthill. Went threw Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, and over to Spokane, ended up spending the night in Grand Coulee. Chris wanted to see the light show that they do at night on the dam but the last show was the 6th. BUMMER! Wednsday we left Grand Coulee planning to spend the night in Packwood!. We rode over to Wenatchee, south on 97 to Ellensburg, south on 821 to Yakima, and then west on 12 getting us to Packwood around 3 pm. Oh and by the way, next year for SPLASH I think we need to ride east more on Hwy 12. Comming across White Pass was awesome! In Packwood we decided to haul our assets home. Got home around 6:30. Sore butt! Let me tell you, my butt was sore! Now I know why Jack Patrick always has preperation "H" when he rides! I think our total miles were about 1,912. Gone 6 days and I have to say I saw so much that I never thought was out there! What a gorgeous world we live in! The Harley got a good scrubbin down today. Needs to have some deatailing done but for now I think I am going to just rest. Thanks everyone for the fun times! You are all the best! BORDER RAID 2004 ROCKED!!!! Loni PS Thanks SportyEric for getting me the Ruby Red Grapefruit juice! I really could of done without it but after 3 wine coolers, 2 vodka shooters, I needed those 2 Grapefruits and vodka drinks! |

Hey Loni, So how'd you like the back side of the state? Next time you guys go on an epic ride, try Hwy 20 across the northern tier. I rode it from Oak Harbor to Spokane. Took me nine hours, but the grin was semi-permanent. LOTS of curves...very few straights. Buell heaven. Looking forward to next year. Hopefully Uncle Sugar will let me off long enough to play. Pete |

Hey guys, Just got your letter/postcard. Thanks everyone!!! You have no idea how cool it is to get stuff like that from home. Your sentiments and good wishes are greatly appreciated. Cross your fingers, Janel and I should be able to do the Border Raid next year. Keep leaning. Pete |

Yeah, 2 sucks until you get to Watertown. The drop down into the Gorge to Wenatchee can be a lot of fun. Stevens Pass is cool as long as you don't get stuck behind the Winabagos. . 20 is great if you have the time. The scenery is stunning through Washington Pass as well. Pete |

Chris & Loni, Too bad the beemer broke or Linda & I might have joined you on your adventure. It sounded great! Word is now that the wiring harness was "adjusted" during the tranny exchange... something about cold solder joints - so a new one is on order. We may get a ride in in October if the weather cooperates... Thought I posted this message last week, damn! turning 50 is weird! :-<> MG |

I really hope you can make it S1H! My site has been updated, check out the Spring Edition it's got lots of pix from last BorderRaid and also our trip to Chris & Loni's this year to watch Daytona race ---> http://bcrider.com We'll talk more about the trip during SPLASH. Try to get an idea on what we'll be doing. Not sure if Whistler will be our first destination what with all the highway construction to prep for Olympics. We'll just have to wait and see I guess. Ride on, Lo. |

As with SPLASH, staying in one place (Penticton) is now preferred. Some will, apparently, be heading up on Friday. Since I'll be working that day, I see no attraction in a freeway burn to get there for Friday night. I'll be planning on a fun ride there on Saturday. Perhaps via Duffy Lake Road, although that may be overly ambitious. Friday arrivals can find fun roads for Saturday. The main ride, I think, will be Sunday. A hot lap of Okanagan Lake: Greeen Mountain Road to Oliver, east from Osoyoos up those wicked switch-backs. Turn around at the top and go down then up again. North to Beaverdell? Through Kelowna and down the Westside Road? Just shooting my mouth off. You're all used to that. Or out towards Nakusp, to the south east? Needles Ferry and back on #3? JIm knows. He'll tell us when we need to know. |

So let me get this strait, no longer do we go to Whistler/Blackhome, we arrive in Penticton on Friday and stay there until Sunday correct? Dazed and confused |

Or arrive on Saturday. There are a number of loops through the best roads in BC availble starting from there. The road to Whistler is undergoing a $1.2 billion exercise to take out all the curves in time for the 2010 Olympics. So many of the good sections are gone already. The rest are under construction. Even before, it made a short riding day on a crowded road for us locals, so our riding fun didn't start til Sunday. |
