I chirped the front tire at 60 yesterday in a panicked grab of the front brake stopping for a pack of dogs on the road. I've been chased by a couple, one in particular on a daily basis (a state cop's dog no less). Anyone used pepperspray or mace on the bast#$%s? Try riding the Blue Ridge Parkway and coming around a corner at about 50-60 mph and seeing a dog in the road. Now, I had enough time to slow down, which I did, and started to go by him. Well, all was well until the little #&$@%&$# started to chase me. I gunned it at the last second to avoid him hitting me. Worst part was the owner was not 50 ft. from him. Why was he letting the thing run around out there!?!?!?! | ||

I chirped my tire, and did a nice high-speed stoppie to boot, recently when a dog ran out in front of me. I see people walking beside the highways every now and then with their dogs, off-leash--dangerous and stupid (oh, yeah--I lost one of my dogs that way years ago, I learned the hard way!). | ||

Years ago, right in front of me, a buddy had a doberman run out from between parked cars after him. The dog hit the middle of the bike and got spun up in between the rear wheel, swingarm and chain. He went down, dog went puree. It took me an hour to get that damn dog out of his bike. | ||

My dad had a major wipe out earlier this year because there was a dog in the road he couldn't avoid. Thankfully he was wearing his gear and walked away from it, the bike was trashed, about 8K in repairs (it's a BMW R1200CL). Irresponsible people are everywhere, keep that in the back of your mind when you are out there! | ||

i kicked a pitbull once that jumped out of a truck(truck was in drive thru lane) and came after me while riding into a parking lot and the owner got pissed i dont think he thought his dog would yelp and run away like it did, from a stiff boot in the head i told him where he and his dog could go this was back when i had my filthy mouth, i am reformed now | ||

Reminds me of a funny story. I was on the bike stopped behind a guy at a stop sign. The guy's dog jumped out of his car window and attacked a couple's dog (on a leash) on the side of the road. The lady and her husband were holding their little dog above their heads while this pincher was mauling the •••• out of them both. I couldn't help but laugh my butt off behind my mirrored helmet shade. | ||

Lots of dog stories, more than I would have thought. When I was 16, I was riding a CB650 Honda with a passenger on the back. We were in a residential area when two kids ran across the road right in front of me. I was already on the brakes when a dog ran across the road, following the kids. I was only doing 25mph, but I realized if I hit the dog with the brakes on, there was a good chance we would have gone down. I had no recourse but to get back on the gas and run over the dog with the throttle on. Sure enough, I caught the dog right between the front and back legs and killed it instantly. All this happened in a split second. I came back to help get the dog off the road and took home a very important lesson, one that I never forgot - had I been speeding, it might have been one of the kids that I hit. | ||

My dad is a postman and he said if you kick a dog behind the ears hard it will kill them. There was a postman he worked with that was notorious for kicking dogs that tried to attack him and killing them instantly. Luckily I’ve never had to try this, but if a pit-bull was to come after me I would without any second thought. | ||

Back when I worked fixing cash registers I was coming back from Cabot and a dog darted out in front of me from behind a hedge that separated two properties on the right. Luckily I was able to swerve and avoid him (no oncoming traffic). I looked in my rear view mirror and watched the dog set up again for his next attack behind the hedge. The little bugger thought it was a game! Had I been on a bike it probably would have gotten run over. | ||

I work on an Indian Reservation in Arizona...lots of stray "Rez Dogs" run around in packs of 10 or 20. They used to chase me quite a bit until I bought my D&D!! Now I just pull in the clutch and rev the throttle and they back off. My bike barks louder than they can!! | ||

My Dad had a couple of great cures for dogs that chased cars and motorcycles. For cars, he would pop the rear hub cap off the car on the dog's normal approach side and trap a 2 or 3 foot long rag under it as he put it back. Then he would drive by slowly and nail the throttle as soon as the dog got his teeth into the rag. It usually only took one or two treatments. For motorcycles he would shut the bike down a half a block away and then push it down the sidewalk much like a pedestrian. When the dog got close he would chum up to up and start petting it if he could. As he did that, he slipped a doubled up piece of rope through the dogs collar or put a hitch around the dog's neck. Then he would feed the rope through the back wheel on the exhaust side and snub the dog up short close to the muffler. Then he would start the engine. About 15-30 seconds of throttle blips and he would set the dog free. Dad loved animals, he never hurt one in the process of getting them trained. One old guy thanked him for doing it. He said the dog was already cowering and hiding under the porch before humans could even hear a motorcycle coming. Jack | ||

Jackbe quick tell your Dad he is inhumane.Tell him to come over to my place try that with my dog.My dog would pull the bike down with your Dad and show him who's your Daddy.There is ways to deal with disobedient animals and that isn't one of them. | ||

away back when, there was a neighbourhood terrier than always chased me on a bicycle or my kawi 125. Finally ,one day he ran right at me on the m/c and we played chicken. The dog stopped about 20ft ,turned ,then i chased him right up to the owners driveway. I was right on his a$s. Never chased me again. | ||

When I was a kid our dog, a lab, kill one of my grandparents chickens so my dad tied it around her neck for a few day so she would learn not too. I think it's inhumane when a person know their dogs chase cars and people and they continue to let them knowing one day they may get ran over or beat by someone protecting themselves. | ||

I think I did my Dad a disservice by saying what I did here. He told me about those things some years ago and with a twinkle in his eye. I never saw him do either of those things or know that he did them. He was very kind to animals. Jack |
