"Personification is giving human qualities to animals or objects" ...what cyclist doesn't do this? Face it fellas, we talk to our scoots! Well, some of us don't, i guess...japanese motortools are for getting from point a to point b...they allow the rider to be the focus and they must "work" in order to have value... i think my infatuation with the 3 ladies, Ducati, Sporty and M2 have been laid bare for all to see [i am NOT ashamed!] my wife thinks me a slut for throwing everyone over for the M2, but hey, it's love, what can i say? Consider the following on Lawrence of Arabia... "...loved his motorcycling and his motorcycle. 'A skittish motorbike,' he said; 'with a touch of blood in it is better than all the riding animals on earth, because of its logical extension of our faculties, and the hint, the provocation, to excess conferred by its honeyed untiring smoothness. Because Boa' - Boa was Lawrence's pet name for his Brough - 'loves me, he gives me five more miles of speed than a stranger would get from him." "Lawrence named his Broughs 'Boanerges', meaning 'sons of thunder', and called them George I, George II, and so on. George VIII was ready for collection at the time of Lawrence's death." We know that Lawrence was a bad mammajamma, a real wardaddy...so if he had a relationship with his scoot [hey, HE used the word love], then why should I feel ashamed? Would anyone care to hear my theory of exactly what sickle 'ol Larry would choose in this day and age? [give ya 3 guesses] [hey, i have the day off 2morrow, so i can stay up and write stuff] |

I saw where somebody posted about the last flying b-29 "FIFI". I had one of the greatest experiences of my life when I paid 250 dollars for a 15 minute ride back in 1990. Back when they used to call it part of the confederate air force. I too am a big fan of vintage aircraft, and have went to Boeing plant in wichita,KS where they are restoring "DOC" to flying condition. My favorite is a Lockheed p-38. Silas, did you see the write up in Robb report about Lawrence's Brough? A local collector has 3 of them, pic's don't do them justice. |

"How good is an M2 for running around town?" I think it is a good errand bike in a town, especially if you're going to have some open road or freeway sections mixed in. In a real "City", maybe not. It will feel a little more top heavy and cumbersome at first than enduro bikes but is actually pretty adept in traffic. I have a Buell sling bag (rides across one shoulder and your back, like a courier bag more than a back pack) and it will haul a lot of stuff and carry a helmet if you can't leave it on the bike. On errands for smaller stuff, the M2 is the first thing that comes to mind. Oh boy! An excuse to ride the bike! Jack |

Around town M2 Still laughing-I rode the M2 about a mile to the grocery yesterday. I had just one "spider bungie" yet brought home a rather large frozen pizza,18 eggs, pork saugage,a dozen bananas, two apples, plus ham, cheese and a loaf of bread. All the store employees wear wearing carnival clothes for the stores promotion, so I snagged a blue helium balloon that matched my goofy Pontiac blue helmet and wore the balloon on my wrist on the way home. I laughed all the way home and didn't care if I looked like a 'tard. TT |

The factory sling bag is handy for groceries, I use mine for errands as much as possible. Brought home bread and eggs just last night too... |

This topic has got to me, too. I used to belong to this site years ago, but I sold my '99 M2 a while back. I went to a Buell rally this past weekend and that got me to lusting after another. I want a tuber, I like the stone-axe simplicity and raw, elemental nature of the old-tech bikes. I'm hoping that now that fall's approaching, something I can afford will turn up. |

Buy the M-2 and don't look back. Will be the best bike you ever had for the money. All motorcycles have their problems. Buells are not anymore problematic than any other harley product and they are a lot funner to ride. Compared to how I ride my x-1 it really hasn't given me many problems and most were relatively easy to fix once i figured out how to do it. The edge with an M-2 is a carb vs the DFI |

No question, great bike. But don't listen to me, I am biased. 2 out of 3 bikes I have owned have been M2's. They are a great do-it-all bike. Although I am pretty mechanical (mechaniacal?) so I like it. |

I honestly prefer the M2 to my S2. the increased steering radius of the M2 makes it feel like a KX250 in comparison to my T-bolt. |

Bought an '02 M2 new in '02. Now three years later, running perfectly and have never had a problem with it or been left stranded. By '02, everything was sorted well with the bike. It is a keeper. Placed a video yesterday in the Quick Board area here of my Sunday ride on it: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/143089.html?1125363271 |

I've always thought of the M2 as the girl you know you should have married when you got the chance. |

"By '02, everything was sorted well with the bike. It is a keeper." Thanks for the inspiration. I started debugging a 2000 M2 this year, and it seems to be going well enough. I'll give it another year and then move on if I don't get to the point when I can simply get on it and ride it several hundred miles without wondering if something will go wrong. But I got started cheap and it is still fun... Jack |
