I don`t understand how some of the XB`s claim to be getting 55 to 60 mpg or more? Maybe something is wrong with my XB12 cause i NEVER get more than 90 to 95 miles out of a tank, just (normal riding) before the low fuel light comes on. I`m filling it up almost to where the tank overflows! I thought it was a problem with the light so i`ve tried to keep going a couple of times. That ended up running out of gas and stopping at 115miles and 120 miles. My bike is totally stock too with just a few thousand miles. What gives? |

Hm. I get a good 120 miles on mine before the light comes on. Check your spark plug gap? I'm just grasping for straws, I don't know how much affect that would have on mileage. |

Medic, My XB9S with race kit was getting about 63 mpg while in the Colorado mountains. I think the fuel ingection was compensating for the altitude. Otherwise I get about 45 to 50 mpg. DBird |

Could the TPS need to be adjusted? What kind of riding do you do? When I'm on 100+ mile rides on rural roads with few stops and gentle throttle control my XB9S regularly gets over 55 mpg. But back into the city and stopped for traffic lights its always less than that. |

I have never gotten below 50 MPH, usually 54-55. Easy riding, I have an XB9S with race kit and 12 air box. |

So at around 60+ mpg you guys must be getting over 200 miles per tank right? |

If you are not a really aggresive rider, then you should get much better than that. I have a 2004 XB12S that gets 60+ miles per gallon all the time. i have gotten as much as 182 miles one time before i hit the reserve light. I have almost 4,000 miles on the bike and it is stock except for bars and tailsection. I ride mainly in the mountains of colorado not much in traffic. I use the torque of the engine and short shift it mostly. For my riding style, reving to the redline is not needed. I like going around the corners fast instead of top speed. on many trips of 175 to 200 miles (cruising at 65 to 75 mile per hour) I have got in the mid 70's. I am 5'9" tall and weight around 140lbs so this might help too. I do my own mantenance every 1000 miles changing both oils, adjusting at that time the primary chain & clutch, check sparkplug gap and the exhaust valve too. |

freeway or street? Which do you ride in your "normal riding"? that would make a huge difference. |

Medic, you should get that looked at by a good tech. There are many things that can affect MPG, it could be a symptom of a bigger problem. |

i think the big problem isn't the mpg on these bikes. its how dang small the tanks are. i average just under 50 mpg. but i have never squeezed in more than 2.5 gallons on a fillup. if you work that out its roughly 125 miles. i think that sucks. when i plan long rides i make sure to stop and fill up anytime i start getting close to the 100 mile marker. i end up filling up the bike twice as often as the friends i ride with, yet i get better milleage than most of them. we're suposed to have a 3.7 gallon fuell tank... i say realisticly my tank is 2.5 |

I just came back from a road trip and I got anywhere from 53 to 59 mpg. I got the 59 riding on the interstate up in the mountains. I was going around 125 to 140 miles before the reserve light came on. |

XB12SRX? I would probably get better mileage if it weren't so dang easy to yank the throttle every chance I get! GOD I LOVE MY BUELL!! |

I almost always get about 140 miles before my reserve light kicks on... When I fill her up it only takes about 2.7 - 2.8 gallons on my 2005 XB12Scg. That puts me between 50 and 52 mpg consistantly. |

I went on a MDA bike ride about a month ago , there was a lot of 45 to 55 mph riding on back roads and some town driving I got a average of 60 miles per gallon which blew me away. But I know on interstate speeds and just town driving would not be that high. I also had Race ecm and D&D. Not sure how much differance that makes. Coule other things to note was although I never figured it before , it seemed when I first got my bike new it didn't seem to go near as far on fill up. Another thing is when I am around town I am usually cruising around 2000 RPM's. Some people will be 3500 or more , and that will suck the gas down. |

I agree with taxman. I get great mileage, but everytime I fill up it only takes like 2.5 gallons to do it. Where is the rest of the fuel space? There's 1.2 gallons somewhere not getting used or the tanks not that big. I've hit my low light and ridden another 10 miles and it only took 2.8gal to fill er up. So almost one gallon left, could I have gone another 50 miles on my reserve? |

I think there is a basic misunderstanding here. It does not matter when the low light comes on. It is just a fuel level switch, it could be high or low respectively. Count how many gallons you put in the tank. use a calculator then you will know. They claim 14.5 litres/3.2 galls(uk). You might find it is just the level switch. |

my day to day riding, 50 miles round trip to work, ciyt streets and some freeway....40-45 mpg when I go out canyon carving with some others 150-200 mile trips....50-55 mpg we did one loop on 105+ degree day, 115 miles gas to gas (same station)...took 1.98 gal! if it weren't so far outta my way I would fill up there every time I needed gas. So maybe my level switch is signalling too early? Last fuel reciept 2.369 gallons w/117.7 miles on the trip, 49.6834 mpg. Fuel light came on around 110 miles on trip. Took 2.369g to get fuel to right at bottom of fuel cap. |

I just filled up 15 minutes ago, 2.714 gals, 123.5 miles. 45 MPG. 2003 XB9R with 5k miles. |

I get between 140 and 160, filling up with between 2.7 and 2.8 gallons. That would work out to anywhere from 50 if I'm honkin' on it, to about 60 taking it easy. |

XB12R Daytona to Ft Lauderdale between 75-85 mph, (OK, sometimes higher) 1 stop Vero Beach each way = 47-48 mpg on a regular basis. Rider and gear = approx. 250 lbs. Hard to beat that. |

I gas it around all the time and always get 120 to 130 on a tank. I usually put 20mi on the reserve and I'll have 140 to 150 when I fill up. I have a 12R with a race kit. |

me same as bruceclay. 120 or so, light comes on. but then I go 40-50 more miles and fill up, then i put in about 2.5-2.9 gallons. i have never put more than 2.9 gallons in my tank. when i fuel up, i always look down in the tank and shake the bike to see where the fuel is. i always seem to have a lot left over. |

Normal riding for me is backroads with slow cages that wouldn't pull over for ya if you were on fire. So I do a lot of spurt riding. Go a good pace, throttle down when I come accross a cage & at first oppurtunity, gun it around them. I'm usally between 3.5K & 5.5K on the tach. I get 44 point something or other miles per gallon. I once did some gentle cruising. Stayed between 3K & 4K & held a pretty steady pace. I got 51 mpg that time. Edit: My bike is a bone stock 12Scg (Message edited by metalstorm on August 24, 2005) |

ya, my mileage is kinda confusing me, i was getting about the same as everyone else as far as mileage. when we were in sturgis though we rode needles as part of a 250 mile ride so u know i was playing really hard keeping pace with my friends tlr1000. we got back to town and he mentioned something about how we should almost be out of gas since we rode so hard and so many miles since last fill up. light was not on which i thought was odd so we went right to fill up. i still had over a gallon left, cant remember exact figures, but i figured it up when we got done filling and i got almost exactly 70 miles to the gallon. doesnt make much sense but i'll take it, lol |
