Well it sunday night and SPLASH is in the History books. Let history state that there was No casualty's!! All that attended were treated to some of the Best roads in America. The ride was long this year but I think well worth the many stops to re-group the group at our many direction changes. Watching MotorBike Mike Morf into Hot Shoe Mike was a stellar Highlight of Saturday night!!. Special Thanks to Chris,Loni, Mike and Mat for making things go so Smooth. Also, The BBQ in Woodland was GREAT!! (thanks again Chris and Loni) I think we had just over 30 people on the ride. Tired and going to Bed, Bob |

SPLASH!!!!!!! What a killer time! Glad to put faces to names. Mike, you're hot shoes are the best, 6 feet of spray!! Thanks to everyone that came, and this is a must do for me from now on! Border Raid is next. To are friends up north hope you made it home safe. Thanks again to everyone!! See you all tuesday. |

Well I finally experienced SPLASH. I have never had so much fun on a motorcycle. Thanks to all those who made it happen. Chris and Loni for the great BBQ. I'm not sure who came up with the route for Saturday, but please don't change it next year. I just wanted to mention that I had a little adventure on the way home. I split off from Stu and the rest of the Canucks and went up Hwy 9. I was bookin' along nicely when the X1 started to missfire just a little, then a little more. I pulled over and checked it out and everything seemed fine. The missfire went away and then the red fault light came on and stayed on even though the bike was running OK. Everything was cool until I stopped at the duty free and picked up the obligatory 40 pounder of Kahlua. When I started the bike it almost didn't want to turn over. Just hot, I thought. Then when I stopped at the border I had to turn off the bike to talk to the nice border lady. When I tried to start it again....click, click, click. Nada. I called Stu to see what he thought. Battery likely. Stu offered to come and pick up the bike and me with his pickup - do people get any better than this guy? The nice border lady was just going on a break so she came over and asked if "those cable things" would help. Absolutely! She brought over her car and boosted the X1 back to life. On the way home the speedo and tach got weird and then quit. Then the bike started cough and backfire and then it quit right on the very busy #1 Hwy. After coasting to a stop I called Stu again. Stu just jumped in his pickup and got me and the bike back to my house. I can't say enough about him. You're the best, Man! Just a little side note. When I was standing beside the highway and cars and trucks and bikes are flying by I want to mention that there still are still a few good samaritans out there but they don't drive cars. They drive a BMW RS 1150?, a Ninja 600 (cute girl!), a GSXR 1000 and a Harley Dyna. Anyways, all in all a great weekend. I was a pleasure meeting some of you and getting to know others better. I just know I can't do justice to the totally bonkers spark show. I''l let someone with more decriptive talent do that. Later, Bib |

SPLASH!!!!! You've just got to be there! That was definitely the best motorcycling weekend I have ever been on. Many thanks to Chris and Loni for all the wonderful things that they do so well to make a fun weekend for all that attend. Mike, Mat and Bob, a big hats (helmets) off for laying out the coolest network of roads anyone could hope for. My vote for future SPLASH events for sure. I just can't get all those fast corners out of my head! Hope we can return the great time with Border Raid in September. See ya all there EH! Bib: Sorry to hear about all the problems after we split up. Glad Stu came to the rescue. Stu you really are the man! Not that we didn't already know that. FunJimmy |

Well I must say I am hooked! After letting Mike go alone all those years, he'll be lucky to get away without me next time! I had by far the most fun I have ever had in my entire life. The bike and I became one! Bob & Debbie can you see me dancing? The Shoe's for Mike are absolutely awesome, now not only is he Weelie-Stoppie Man, he is now Mettle Man! And yes ladies he is taken! Thank you Chris and Loni for the bar-b-que and for all the others who were kind enough to help me through out the weekend. I didn't do to bad for only riding 5-6 times, heck with a little more practice I might catch up to you Lorraine! Thanks again for a great weekend and most of all to my husband for letting me come with! Kimberlie (MTRBKMIKE'S Wife). |

Hi Mike, Mechanical failures left me on the side of the road after the last stop to re-group just before lunch on Saturday. The bike was running well when I shut it off at the re-group stop. But when I started it up, it made this horrible clattering. The sound was coming from the cam/lifter area of the exhaust valve on the front jug. I nursed it down the hill to Lyle and ate lunch at that Mexican place. During lunch the consensus was leave the bike in Lyle and arrange transport back to Tigard. Steve Breswell(sp) was kind enough to let me ride monkey on his S3 back to Portland. I can’t thank you enough Steve for all your assistance, but making me shave my ass and letting you call me bitch just to get a ride home was too much, just kidding here . Drove back to Lyle later that afternoon and put the bike in the back of the truck. The bikes at home resting in the back room now but I haven’t torn it down yet. The speculation has ranged from stuck lifter to bad crank bearings. I’ll post here when I figure out what’s wrong. Thanks to Chris/Loni for the BBQ Friday, don’t forget I want a T-bone next year. And thanks to Bob for picking one hell of a great route to travel. The small stretches of gravel were well worth the twisty roads they led too, way fun. I’ll patch the bike up and be on the road again before long, just hoping it’s before the Border Raid. Hope to see everyone in the wind again real soon. |

raymaines, i was reading your posts regarding your maintenance escapade with the buell. might i offer a few words of advice re: hard shifting? 1) i used normal sport tranny oil (big twin: generic brand for sportster engines) big woopie. i honestly don't think it matters too much what you use. 2) grease your clutch line...that will make it a lil easier to shift, but this isn't your main problem either. 3) this is potentially ONE of your main problems: make sure when you slide the ramp assembly back into your primary cover... that the ramp assembly is positioned with the coupling far back (counterclockwise) as possible without touching the crankcase (around 5 o'clock position)... while it's there, then tighten the nut with your other hand. 4) probably your #1 problem: level of tranny fluid inside your primary. even a teeny weensy little bit OVER the recommended line in your manual will make for HARD shifting and difficulty finding neutral. a bit under is preferable but too little and well you know your stuff doesnt get lubricated but also you'll notice you'll find neutral in times when you don't want to. The local non-harleyshop harley mechanic/shop-owner let me know that finding the right level of tranny fluid inside the sportster case will make ALL the difference in making for easy/tough shifting. And I found all this out the hard way. good luck. |

I was out a good half hour befor checkout, thank you very much Mike. Yep - I slept in, took a right to the coast, ran 101 to Newport, and was in Corvallis at the perfect time to take my lady to dinner. I don't think it could have been a better Sunday. Saturday was great too, thanks all. It has me questioning border raid though. What if I get ditched so far away from home that I can't go get a comfortable bike and directions? |

MDX-1: Yes you certainly may offer a few words of advice about my hard shifting! I copied your post to a Word file for future reference. Thank you. Please elaborate about #3: What's a ramp? I'm sure that if you and I were in the same garage you could point at the "ramp" and I'd know just what you were talking about, but.... My frame was bent in my great flying get-off two weeks ago. Destination HD says it would cost $800 for a new frame and 20 hours of labor (@$65 each) to install it. Plus all the other damage. I’m not 100% sure yet but I think I'm totaled! Beyond that, Everybody that still has a motorcycle sucks. |

raymaines, soy-tun-lee (certainly), sorry, i meant "outer ramp". that's the piece that has 3 lubricated balls between it and the "inner ramp". this entire piece (outer ramp + 3 balls + inner ramp) slides right into the center of the primary cover. the outer ramp is circular except for a hook shaped catch at its bottom end for the "coupling" to slide into. the "coupling" is what you hook the one end of the clutch cable into when you're replacing it (like i did... TWICE... first time because the clutch cable leaked tranny fluid out from its bottom end... second time because i broke the 1st replacement cable... 3-5 ft-lbs means just that when you're screwing in the clutch cable... not a handful of torque... oops!) |

Grrr, blast you evil work and your devious ability to ruin my plans of fun and relaxation! After the volcano raid, was hoping to hook up for Splash, but alas almighty work caught me in a lapse of judgement as I answered my phone. "You must come in for work." That will teach me. The fact I was able to get online Sat AM and get awesome Springsteen tix wasn't much of a consolation. Sigh. Was looking forward to trying to keep up w/Mike (yeah, right). Someone mentioned Border Raid?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm tempting! I'm in search of details now. Glad the rest of you had some fun! Eric |

I enjoy what you contribute and appreciate that you take the time to read the crap that I put up. Let me ask you to please consider putting a little more information in your personal profile. I enjoy connecting your faces, real names and bikes to your screen names and extra information in your profile helps me to know you, or at least feel as though I know you, better. I know it would be impossible, for example, for Ricky to tell what kind of bike he’s currently riding and I don’t expect miracles but all the information you would care to share is helpful.
