Noticed my fan no longer comes on everytime I turn off my XB9R. Is there something I need to replace? Tahnks Tim |

On cooler days and shorter runs my fan does not come on. Shawn |

It comes on only when engine is hot. Here's the spec. Key ON: ------------ Fan ON 428°F Fan OFF 356°F Key OFF: ------------ Fan ON 338°F Fan OFF 302°F |

As the XB breaks in the rear cylinder fan comes on less often. Synthetic oil seems to transfer heat better than non-syn. My XB9S has 8600 mi. Yesterday I did 50 miles non-stop speeds 30-70 mph and the fan did not come on when I shut down. Temp's were in the 70's. But coming back to the city and traffic the fan did activate when I got home. Its been a couple years since the fan has come on while the motor was running. Do you think HD will ever put one of these on their air-cooled motors? Perhaps their answer is to have an even larger oil supply. |

Ummmm right side scoop. I want one! I have to hold off on doing any expensive mods to my bike for awhile as I have just purchased a hot air balloon (working on commercial license). I try to keep $1000 dollars in the bike account for emergency repairs but recently burned that up when I bent both rims, torched a rear rotor and snapped a main drive belt. I am sure my up and comming visit to Vista (American Sport Bike) is going to leave me with a really bad case of the "gotta haves". |

Stou: Thanks for posting the temps. Good info. I personally that Buell will get the hint about the right side scoop and develop a better one. |

you know, i really liked monitoring the temp of my last bikes engine. i always wondered why my XB doesn't have a temp guage or two. whats the deal? my last bike was a Honda F4i, thing was like clockwork, temps always the same, fan on at same temp every time, etc. just for the sake of gathering data i wish i could see my XBs running temps. i'm surprised we dont see more custom dash temp guages. |

After changing to Synthetics, my fan rarely comes on. When it does, only for a minute or two. Come to think of it, what good does a fan do if only runs for 1-2 minutes after key-off???? |

It cools the rear head so the oil doesn't bake. Take a valve cover off of a car sometime... See all that sludge in there? You don't have any in your XB (or at least mine doesn't at 16K miles) . BTW Blake... "Vlave" shows up as a word that's spelled right... |

LOL ... I had typed vlave instead of valve and caught it on my proof read . It wasn't hi-lit (is that a word?)indicating that it was mis-spelled. MS Word seems to think it's mis-spelled, but I didn't google it. |

Oh wait... after reading what I wrote I forgot to mention the "after you shut it off" part... Oh well . Thanks for the correction. In any case, it prevents the buildup of burnt oil in the head. |

Doesn't make sense to just draft the back head. I think the angle of the fan and the small right scoop (a compromise?) alows some cooling of the front head when stopped also. Maybe, IMHO. By no means an expert here, but I'd love to see what airflow/temperature testing Buell did on the XBs. Someday in Fuell? |
