I bought an LSL steering damper about 6 weeks ago (put about 1,500 miles on my bike since). It seems to have lost a lot of oil and now the higher settings are barely different than the weakest setting. Anyone have experience rebuilding these things, and if so, what do I need (type of oil, o-rings, anything else?). I love love love the way it works, but I thought it would last at least a season before I had to fiddle with it!

It sounds like you got a lemon.

I've had mine installed for over 5,000 miles without any problems. And mine even whacks the back of my front fender while braking hard over rough pavement.

I have one, no problems.
I have mine set one click from softest, I only put it on for racing but have yet to have the bike misbehave.

Dago do a search on the hitting the fender topic. If I remember right someone else had that problem and they put a bracket on backwards. Mono I would contact the company and see what they say about it.

be careful what you say, I've been told that there are NO lemons. Everything buell related is great and there are NO problems!




P.S. I'm just being a sarcastic A-hole because I said "As with anything there are going to be a few lemons in the bunch" and was told that that is inaccurate

Brypska, I was apart of a few of those threads. I did have it mounted upside down at first. It's no longer that way and it still hits. I wish it did not. But it does.

Saintly, I know...I know...I know. You're right. I lost my head for a moment.

The LSL hits the top of my fender like it could on no other bike. Sure, it may not whack it as hard as it would on an R1. But it wasn't designed to. The Buell/LSL combo creates the perfect whackability; riding a fine line between real world usability and hard-nosed competitive qualities.

Thanks for the reality check. I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon doing my chants to the Buell gods in hopes they don't strike famine on my family and flats in my tires.

Dago, What are your forks set at. You might be to soft. Sorry I am not a guru when it comes to set ups. That maybe why you are having problems also. Good luck and ask around this board. There are plenty of people that can help you out.

You sure the preload and compression damping on you front forks is set high enough for your weight? Sounds like it could be set a tad too soft, although I've got mine setup based on some articles I've read, and my own personal preference and the front end still dips a bit under hard braking, not sure if it'd be enough to case this, yet I don't have one of these nifty dampers.. YET.

You guys may be absolutely correct. I have the bike setup according to several articles I've read (static sag, etc). But that doesn't mean it's been done correctly. I'm going to hit up one of the suspension guys for some assistance at my next track day.

The problem never arises at the track, however. It only happens during hard braking over bumps.

Thats strange we never had that the last 2 years and sold more than 100 Kits. The Damper is a Showa. Maybe there is an information in the web to find out how to rebuild it.

After 6 weeks...... ask the guy who sell it to you.....

Forgotten, the fenderhittingdamper is not a bug, its a feature to tell you: You are to heavy for this summer..
