X1tx, you've ridden the 12X then? Longer wheel base on a bike that was straight line stable and turns so well should alleviate the problems you experienced, course that could have been suspension set up or tire inflation too. Can we put this new tranny in the tube framed bikes? Not to be starting a fight but there are a lot of folks criticizing before they've done more than read the spec sheet. Hell, we still had complaints about not having a tool kit from people who read the specs... -Mike |

Can we put this new tranny in the tube framed bikes? Nope, the XB tranny is not interchangeable with the tubers as the tubers are not interchangeable with the XB. Cases are just too different and so have different gearsets. |

i just did a bit of a trip on a 2000 x1, 1700 miles, much of it was on the slab (1100 miles or so) but the rest was balls to the wall riding (not that a lot on the interstate wasn't wot riding passing other cars and trucks). all in all I got over 50 mpg... sure 6th gear would have been nice if I would have wanted to down shift to pass everyone. maybe it's because I haven't been riding all that long but I think my bike is setup perfect for EVERY aspect of riding. I ride to work in Chicago almost everyday and don't have a complaint, and I have done what I consider a nice little tour on her. The great part is every time I start her up I grin from ear to ear knowing that regardless of what I am doing I am going to have a great time. Call me new and unjaded but I LOVE the feeling I get even just starting my bike up. Sure more HP would be great, but that isn't why I bought my bike in the first place..... Jake (a bit of a rant) |

Taxman, I have to disagree 1st- "when talking about the number of gears you got to keep in mind that when you change the number of gears your also going to get a change in gear ratio. there not just going to slap on a 6th gear to the end of what you have. you'll end up with the same top speed and just have to shift more often" The gears ratios can change, but then you can change final drive gears Automotive's Ring and Pinion or on a Motorcycle the final drive Sprockets and come out with the same acceleration and a higher top speed. 2nd- "the reason for needing extra gears is so that engines with a narrow power band can stay within peak power performance...just like muscle cars or little sporty cars. a big block is only going to have 4 or 5 gears, probably 4 if they are going for acceleration. where a highly tuned sports car will have 6 (or sometimes even 7). because they need that many to stay in the peak of there power band." 2005 Corvettes with the 6.0 liter V8's come with a t-56 6 speed. 2003 Cobras with their 400hp supercharged V8's come with T-56 6 speeds. Cobras with Superchargers have the ability to not need a 6 speed with their huge torque curve, while the 4 cylinder Honda Civics still come with a 5 speed. |

I don't understand where people are coming from. I rarely even touch 5th gear on my bike except on the highway and that is only after I have passed 70 mph. My cyclone cruises great at 80-85 and I am runing a 26 tooth front sprocket. If it is that much of a problem, run a 29 tooth front sprocket. |

But I will say that the Buell, as currently configured, is a bit nervous when driven at a sustained 80 mph. My old Duc would do that comfortably (in 6th gear). Last year, when I was riding home from Daytona, I got in behind an ST4 Ducati. We ran 90 - 95 MPH up I-95 through Georgia and a big chunk of S. Carolina, 'till he pulled off (probably for gas). My M2 was singing. It wasn't the least twitchy or nervous. I don't think different gearing would have helped me at all. I don't understand your complaint. Ride one before you criticize it. Then, if you still feel it needs another gear, come back and post about it. |

X1tx, you've ridden the 12X then? Uh, no. Since they were only unveiled Saturday (when I was out of town) I've yet to see one. And the closest dealer just recently dropped the Buell line off his floor. Longer wheel base on a bike that was straight line stable and turns so well should alleviate the problems you experienced, course that could have been suspension set up or tire inflation too. Probably not as I was addressing engine speed more than handling. My wish for a 6th gear is to reduce the revs at sustained high speed cruise. Not to be starting a fight but there are a lot of folks criticizing before they've done more than read the spec sheet. Hell, we still had complaints about not having a tool kit from people who read the specs... Not 'complaining about' or 'criticizing' the bike (as I said in an earlier post). Only that the shortcoming that I see with the new bike is that it does not address an area that I perceive to need a 'fix'. But (again as I said multiple times earlier) that is my own opinion. Others that have posted here don't feel like it's something that needs fixing. That's why we all like different bikes. The new bikes will sell well and I'm happy for that. Just that I don't see a change to an area that would impact my decision to trade up. Given that it doesn't address something that I find significant (as well as the fact the closest H-D(tm) dealer has dropped the Buell line) means you won't have to worry about me getting in line in front of you for a new 12X. |

not sure I'd want to cruise at 3K rpm -- my M2 (havn't ridden a Uly yet), smooths out above 3K a fair amout -- 80 - 100 mph is smooth and effortless |

I dont know how much work was done to improve the tranny, but a 6th just makes sense. Changing all the ratio's wouldnt be nessecary. the 6th gear would be a o/d. seems like a half an effort. imo |
