must be coming up to the EAA Fly-in time o year -- I was puttin through town Saturday, heard some glorious music, glanced up, and saw a B-17 flyin low and slow (prolly going to Palwaukee for gas?) . . . if you're in the midwest, keep your ears open -- you're likely to hear/see some nice iron in the skies . . . .

I don't think the B17s have enough room to land at the Pewaukee airport, but I could be wrong. I live about a mile from there, and boy have we been seein' the old war planes last weekend.

I was up in a B-17 a couple of years ago - it's an amazing experience and was one of my "life goals". They're smaller than you may think, and it seems like they could land on a longish driveway if the pilot put his mind to it...

IIRC, the F-4 Phantom is the same length as the B-17.

Steve -- PALwaukee -- intersection of Palatine and Milwaukee Roads ;-}

I know that all readers here factor in the typo or 7 in my postings -- this time, the typo was not in the location word or phrase -- a b17 can easily land at Palwaukee --

yepp, the Fortresses are TINY, when viewed through our eyes . . . .

Yes it is that time again.In 1998 I attended the event and also dropped in at the factory on a Tuesday afternoon and was given a tour by Court and shown their just released 99 models and then the downhill slide into Buelldom got rolling.The factory staff were the best people and the whole trip throughout your country is one that still springs to mind. A few months back I enquired if any one from the chicago area could help out a fellow Aussie motorcycle rider who is attending the Oshkosh show.nil replies.No matter as other people will now be infected with Nevilles wit and humour.

Sentimental Journey (B-17G) is going to be at the Bar Harbor airport for a week in August. I think I'll take the ride this year, $395 for a 45 minute ride. The money goes into the maintenance fund and it ought to be worth every penney.

I have been going to EAA since I was in a stroller. I was there to see Voyager, the SR-71, a Mig 21, B1, B2, Stealth F117, F14, F15, F16, A-10, the Harrior, the cricket (a small kit plane powered by 2 15 hp chainsaw motors), the Christian Eagles, the Blue Angels, the Thunderbirds, and have had the pleasure of listening to Burt Rutan, Chuck Yeager, and a host of other aviation celebraties. Since I work nightshift, I get to see lots of old iron in the skies while working in the yard. I feel truely honored to have been witness to it all!

I was there as a small child when the Ford trimotor crashed. That was a sad day!
