I was hoping mebbe Erik & Co would bring out a Blast-based supermotard for 2006. Since they didn't, I'm debating the Suzuki DRZ400SM. (heh heh... Beavis moment: I originally typo-ed in "spermotard" heh heh heh...) Somewhere in the 100 or so new threads since the announcement of the 06's, someone mentioned riding (and enjoying) one. I can't find that original post, so I'll just ax if anyone has opinions on the DRZ. Looks like a fun ride.... | ||

I owned a DRZ400S for about two years and loved it but wished it had a little more top end. I was peaking out at around 85 mpg with no mods. For the dirt though, it was a treat. Since I mostly commute anymore, it wasn't the bike for me. As a second bike though, the motard would be alot of fun around town. | ||

Gotta tell ya they are popping up in NYC and that is one COOL looking bike. Riding partner has one he uses for daily commuting and his only complaint (bear in mind one of his other 8 bikes is a nearly 200HP Hayabusa) is "top end". Looks department...this bike is a winner. Court | ||

I've ridden it. It's really great. It's light, sticky, leanable, and a HOOT to ride. 2 of the 4 Suzuki S/M bikes have been sold to employees at the dealership where I work. We ALL love the bike so much that the Sales Manager told us all to stay off of it so it could stay in the showroom. 12 o'clock wheelies? No problem. Shooting underneath a ZX6R in a twisty curve. No Problem. Superlight, not overpowered, cheap, and way cool. Stupid fun. | ||

I`ve seen a few in NYC too. They look cool. Too bad Suzuki detuned the motor so much for the street. They would be alot more fun with the 55rwhp that the dirt version has. | ||

I've got a 03 DRZ400S which is a blast in the woods. It would be nice if it had a bit more power - so what else is new? My biggest complaint is that with a foot of suspension at either end it sits really high. The rocky, log strewn off camber hills can be tricky to negotiate 'cause you dare not try to dab or you're going over. I'm actually thinking of selling it to get a Ulysses. Anybody interested? It would be a snap to convert to super motard. I think it's only got 800 miles on it. | ||

"Stupid fun" is what I'm looking for. (Ironically, for the last several YEARS I've been looking for a sport-tourer with lockable luggage for the wife and I that actually tripped my trigger enough to make me crack my wallet. Now that Buell finally makes one, my wife is 5 months preggo and you can kiss touring GOOM-BYE for a while.) So now I'm looking for a "playbike" for around-town fun. Don't need much HP for that, and besides, I'd rather achieve decent power-to-weight thru low weight than high HP. Plus, the p-t-w ratio of the DRZ is probably twice that of my W650 sidecar rig. Should take a curve a lot better too  Too bad the Zook dealer doesn't give test-rides.... |
