I noticed we've picked up several BadWebers posting at the Advrider site (http://www.advrider.com) and I'm sure we'll be picking up some regular Advrider members here as they seek to find out more about new Buells.

I've been hanging around at Advrider for about a year or so; it's a great site. For those of you new to the site, I highly recommend reading the "Ride Reports and Pics" threads. I really enjoy those, especially when I don't have time to take a good ride. Some of these guys make you feel like you've enjoyed a good ~1500 mile ride after you read their posts.

Here's one of my favorites from last year; by a guy from the UK who did a coast-to-coast tour of the U.S.:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41209

It's a LONG thread; the guy used to post every day or so for several months.

Here's one I posted last year. It seemed to get good reviews. I hope to post some more in the future:

this brings up something i've wondered about, but haven't broached being i'm new on this board...

I first heard about badweb while participating on the board at ATC.
I checked it out and enjoy badweb immensely.
I check both out frequently, as do many others.
recently, here on badweb, i've found several buellers who live right around the corner from me and who are organizing rides in my area.
I mentioned this to one guy on ATC who lives about 45 minutes away from me, and he wasn't aware of them, nor vice-versa.
I know that the director(s) of ATC have been very big fans of badweb, and also that badweb's director is an old member of atc.
have the two entities (badweb being a sponsor-subsidized website, and ATC being a membership/sponsor subsidized club)
ever cross-advertised? it would seem they'd both benefit greatly and there is no way one would lose 'membership' to the other...both would only gain attendance.
On that same note, I also first heard about battletwins.com from reading either ATC's board or from Badweb..can't remember which... I find that site funny and informative, even if still slightly regional, as well.
wouldn't it be advantageous to establish links to
it from the other two sites?
these three boards seem to be special in that they're not funded/controlled by brag or any other factory-owned group.
anyone have any thoughts on this?

"I hope I'm around the first time Blake ventures into Jo Momma over there."

I think that the 'net robs us of the civilizing factors of 'in-vivo' introduction, in many cases.
somehow i get the impression the two of those witty right-wing buell enthusiasts would get on fine in person...

I've been lurking on ADV for a year or 2. I especially like the "Striking Viking" ride report, currently traveling the world on a Dakar 650 IIRC.

Defending the good Buell name has gotten me to actually register there in the past week. Seems like a bunch of new folks have gone in both directions. That can only be good, right?

My favorite tale on the advriers.com site is the one about the guy who took his R1150GS on an enduro race and finished. Outstanding stuff. I'd like to see more of that here on BadWeB by our more creatively endowed contributors. Tamp... hint... : )

We sure had a rocky introduction via ATC. But it was worth it. You are a very insightful (or is that "inciteful" : ] ) interesting and humorous man. I very much look forward to meeting you in person some day. Unfortunately for me, due to the views of a few of the regulars at ATC, it got to the point that participating there just wasn't a positive experience for me. Here, I am fortunate enough to have some control over that. I guess I may be too sensitive. : )

I wish well whoever has taken up the mantle of "Lord Ruler" over at ATC and hope that they are successful in keeping it a positive place for Buell enthusiasts of all walks to congregate.

cross - pollenation is almost ALWAYS a good thing -- keeps things from gettin too in-bred, er, boring, yeah, that's it, boring

Adriders got some good stuff up there, for sure, but I've yet to read (look at) a posting that approaches J_H's stuff here on badweb --

board DO wind up getting kinda regionalized, don't they -- odd, that -- perhpas due to alpha posters living in a certain area? master's thesis material if I ever saw it

You're welcome U4euh. That was one cool trip to follow. I found the thread when he was a couple of weeks into it. I couldn't wait to get to work in the morning so I could log on and see what he'd done the day before. I'd definitely like to do some cross-country touring one of these days.

Hey Court, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.

It IS amazing the number of advrider's that know all they need to know about Buell from a 4-year old magazine article and heresay. I also notice most of the negative posts on the new bike seem to make a point to lump Buell in with Harley image, ridership, and attitude.

They don't know us very well, do they?

I have been on the adv board for a number of years now and put many many miles, on and off road, on 3 different bmw gs's. I can tell you that much of the "younger" adv crowd just dont get (and never will) the harley, buell thing. I for one am very excited about the direction Mr. Buell is going with this new bike and think it will take sales from bmw and suzuki for sure. I just hope he offers a more dirtworthy conversion kit in the future.

Actually I have my own homebrew "Bajaharley and I have to say, I became completly hooked on that sportster motor as the heart of an adv bike. Once the new buell has been out and about, I think the adv guys will warm up to it and it will be hard to find one sitting in the showroom. Good job Mr. Buell............now offer the baja kit please.

The major maladay in perception appears to be the misconception that there are a lot of recalls on the XB's.

I suspect that time and tide will avail our new friends to the following.

The current Buell XB is the MOST RELIABLE MOTORCYCLE EVER MADE.

Read that again...that's not CURRENTLY MADE, that's EVER MADE.

Manufacturers track warranty $$$ /unit sold.

In addition, this may be on interest to some. Buell capre'd the ol deim on the recalls to create some GREAT customer goodwill. There are folks, this very day, getting parts replaced via programs that expired 5 years ago. That's a good thing.

In addition, and some visiting Asian guests observed this closely while in East Troy last year, Buell has leveraged some neat technology. They have issued at least one recall (a case in which there was never a recorded on street failure) based on information that simply would have been "technically invisilbe" two years prior. Testing, the science of testing and analysis, has come far. What started as a "by the seat of your pants" science is now a refined art. If you need to learn more, go to Amazon and find the book "Building Better Things w/Finite Element Analysis". Abe wrote it while he was working on the XB chassis.

By the way, to any of our new guests...welcome. And, if you ever are in the East Troy area, please check into taking a tour. I've given a couple "Hearts of the Elves" sesssions and you, like the visiting Asians, will have a chance to see that "hand built" and "build quality" are no longer like the old days of Ferrari where you just hoped you got one that was done right. It's an entirely new age, one in which I can look at a database, tell you, on any given bike, what sequence a (94 of 784 parts) was put on, how many degrees of rotation it experienced on the way to final torque, what final torque was, who did it, what the prior and following bikes were, where the torque value falls among specs and all bikes built, etc. Buell has developed a system that shows a bad carrot in the bunch IMMEDIATLEY.

In fact, the best place to read about Buell is in industrial design press...they get past the shiny paint and to the heart of the matter.

Regardless...welcome to Badweb...we are pleased to have you.

Court, Thanks for that blurb regarding the book.

Ferris -- I was, indeed, referrin to your own good self and to your postings --

One of the reasons I keep comin back here is the expansion my mind and character undergo as a result of the (likely unwitting) influance of a number of folks here -- you and Tramp, for instance, remind me that I DO have a vocabulary that exceeds that found on the front page of a daily newspaper (although your styles are very different), Court helps me in my daily, nay, hourly struggle to "go toward to the light," and Thang reminds me that embracing entropy is not only appropriate, but fun, too . . .

there are others, clearly, that add to my enjoyment of the neighborhood -- I'll stop before Barney shows up -- suffice it to say that the new folks from Advrider, or elsewhere, will have found a very valuable resource when they come to visit

There is one story over on Advrider that I enjoyed.

I can't find it now and don't have time to look for it.

A guy totalled his BMW GS on its maiden voyage up on the Trans Labrador Highway. He lost it at over 100mph and this guy didn't have a lot of dirt experience. The BMW ended up bending the rear suspension like a pretzel.

I can't imagine riding that road at 100mph!!!!!

I like the Advrider Board and there are actually some local guys riding.

Dave, that guy is a great writer. I wonder what he's doing now. I was surprised that he virtually came through my back yard (coastal SC) on his trip. Wish I could have met him.

Here's a Brit, one or two days off the boat, riding in rural SC, and he just turns down a dirt road to see where it goes. Heck, I've lived here all my life and I'd be a little hesitant to do that if I didn't know where I was...

Oh yea, for all of you getting tired of hearing about Buell's alleged lack of reliability, dig through the thread and read his posts about the rear end in his BMW grinding itself to bits.

You want to talk cross pollination? What do you get when you cross a rhino with an elephant?

Yes, I've had too much caffiene today. Curtainwall estimator's tend to do that.

I did venture to AdvRider right after the Ulysses was revealed...Seemed to be some ignorant posting about the bike, so I bailed.

I think the older and more experianced you get, the more you can appreaciate a broad range of motorcyles. Many younguns....live and die by the spec sheet. The older you get the more you realise that 5 hp and 10 lbs lighter....dont realy make a damn bit of difference.

Great read on MikeO's BMW adventure around the US. Not exactly trouble free but what support from fellow riders!
IF the Ulysses is as sorted out as Court has us believe, how would it handle a trip of that duration?
Would there be as many roadside helpers in the Buell community?
Hmmmmm.
