Maybe the mods can incorporate this pic into the other threads. Apologies for not getting this one up last night. |

That's Peter Egan on the bike, BTW. It was taken in May in Wisconsin. The bags are German and are huge. Both sidebags are the same size, as there's no muffler for one bag to dodge. Either will easily fit a full-face helmet. You can buy just the sidebags, too, or just the top box; they're sold separately. You lose the rear-most position of the rack with the top box, but it still works as a passenger seat rack or a sissy bar. (Message edited by steve_a on July 23, 2005) |

Those bags on a Lighting Long would make a great sport tourer. |

That seat looks like a real comfy deal. My partner is waiting in the lobby for me to appear. Told him I'll be there shortly after 9 pst. |

The other thing to note in this picture is the leg position. Look at how far Peter's knees are below his hips. Buell talked about 3.5 inches more leg room for the Ulysses than the Firebolt, and you can definitely feel it. I can't think of a motorcycle that's roomier. |

Peter Egan??? Well, that certainly adds credence to Buell's claim that the bike is suited for taller riders!!! |

Hmm....remember Homecoming 04 and the rider on Lightening with the bags...I wonder why everyone at the factory was paying so much attention........ Great job Erik and Company, and those who put em together too! |

>>>what a cool advantage that is eh? Quite literally.... It's a major surprise when you look at the left bag on a BMW and then open it to find it's pretty much for a loaf of bread. |

BMW bags do keep the take-out warm 'till you get home though... |

Anyone know yet if you can mount the top case on the pillion with the triple-thingy folded down rather than out behind the seat?

The one thing I loved about the BMW bags was the integrated attachment brackets. i.e. no retangular empty brackets hanging there when they were off... /image{panniers off} I wonder if the Lightning detachable bags will work on it? |

Cataract2 said: Those bags have sold me on this bike!! I have never been so excited about one until this. Ditto! This bike is really appealing to me, also. Been on the XB9R -> S/T kick for the last 2 years and looks like I should have just waited Chris |

I know I want one but I have to be patient. I can't afford to trade in just yet. Next year I'll have one though .. Hopefully. I love it. Thanks Erik! That's one cool bike! |

"Anyone know yet if you can mount the top case on the pillion with the triple-thingy folded down rather than out behind the seat? " Yes, that's how it works. You keep two positions of the standard luggage rack (over the rear seat and sissy bar), and the bag gets its own hardware out back. |

There's no way on God's green Earth I'd give up my 12Scg for anything but... If I could afford a 12X Ulysses, I'd buy one. Of course I'd have to do like Dog the bounty hunter & have special boots made with a 4" heel but I'd be just fine with that. |

I'm really tempted to trade up to this. Really, wonder what the insurance would be on it? |

I'm with you, M'storm. My little footies would be fanning the air on the Ulysses. But perhaps not all is lost. There's rumor of a low seat option, probably good for one inch. And if we were willing to sacrifice a couple inches of that ultra long-travel suspension, we might, we just might be able to manage it. DaveS has been making up custom XB9RRL bikes on request; I'm sure something of that nature could be done with the 12X as well. So don't give up quite yet. Cancel that leg-extension surgery until we know more... From Buell.com: Seat height, laden: 12X/12Scg 33.1/28.6 in. Suspension travel, front: 12X/12Scg 6.51/2.91 in. Suspension travel, rear: 12X/12Scg 6.38/3.56 (Message edited by tommy_2stroke on July 23, 2005) |

Steve, I think Cdallen's question is whether or not the trunk can slide forward and mount atop the pillion for solo-riding. The BMW R1200GS luggage system allows that. I don't see where the Buell system does. New option for next year? |

Thanks Blake, yes that was exactly what I meant to ask. After re-reading my post I see that I did not specify which direction I had the Triple Tail folded... |

Cdallen -- no, you can't slide the trunk forward. |

Anyone in the know. Was there any testing done on the hard bags for get-offs? How'd they fair? Do they even touch down before the bike? |
