No seriously.... does anyone else find the heat from the fan seriously unpleasant at 80+ degrees? I mean if I ride hard and fan kicks on...wow... I really feel it - and I must admit it kinda sucks (but I love the bike - really) I can't say I've seen this topic discussed. Wondering if the fan is blowing towards or away from the engine? (seems like away - feels like it's drawing that heat up under the seat). So drawing heat off is more efficient than blowing air? Just wondering if anyone has tried ducting that exhaust heat further away from ars & thighs? or if that would be too risky... (Message edited by svmotoman on July 20, 2005) | ||

I've got one of Odie's under seat heat barrier, and it works great. I occasionally sit in traffic for 15 minutes (to go a whopping one mile) in 90 degrees. I get heat from the exhaust, but my butt is not nearly as hot as it was before I put it in. | ||

Unfortunately it's my daily ride home from work. Vermont hasn't figured out how to time the street lights to keep traffic moving, so things tend to take forever. It took me a half hour to go that same mile one day, just because of traffic. It sucks. | ||

It gets warm on my legs from the vents only. Nothing real bothersome. I have a Corbin seat, maybe that's why. I did have the standard lightning seat on for a while, that got damned uncomfortable quickly. Try some of that adhesive backed thermal barrier stuff BMW sells. Bob | ||

Fullpower - yeah, luckily it's usually only 10 - 15 minutes, but every so often there's just a ton of traffic and nowhere for it to go. It's not that I'm going 2 miles an hour for the entire mile. It's more like sit for 3 minutes, pull up 20 feet, sit for 3 more minutes, pull up 20 feet. You get the idea. But I gotta work to pay the bills, and I gotta get to and from work, so it's my dues. At least with the bike there's a chance of weaving in and out to get through it quicker. I've managed to find a couple of back routes to avoid that traffic. And believe me, if that's all you have to deal with for traffic, it's not that bad - and the rest of the roads are worth it. Steve - Why didn't you look me up? I wasn't that busy... | ||

Svmotoman - I am in SC where 90+ days is normal during the summer, and frequently in the upper 90s. Bike heat coming up thru the seat is no problem on my bike, but I have the Buell Touring seat which is a bit thicker. Also, my bike is stock. Do you have an after market exhaust? If so is your engine running lean. That would add to any heat issue.... | ||

Anyways, I to am going to order that heat shield from Odie. I hope it helps keep the monkey butt down. I'm pretty sure I've traced the problem to the heat that get's on the bottom of the seat. Anything has to help. | ||

Hey Truk, Bone stock CityX with 2600 miles, but with Streetfighter seat. How would I know if it's running lean? the thing rocks...I can't imagine it is - but my fan runs alot. I don't care that it runs, I accept that, just the heat on the hotter days. Heck, on cool days it's a free butt warmer. I find myself spreading my legs down the highway to try and duct some air under there...ha. Probably look like a frog. Hey Elff & Cataract2, can you guys report back on Odie's product? | ||

Heat under the seat is not the problem. It's the heat that comes out between the frame and plastic panel just above the knee on the inside thigh area that's a problem. So all these seat heat barriers will not help at all with the inside fo your thigh cooking and they may in fact make that issue worst since the heat will have no where to go but to the left and right. When you get more miles on it it will run less. IF you want to reduce fan usage. Switch over to synthetic oil (I recommend Mobil 1 15/50.). Side note, for better shifting. Mobil 1 75/90. OK Ive had Odie's under seat heat barrier on my bike. I had forgotten that I had installed it because This thing really works. It has seriously helped me out. I still feel the hot air coming out around the seat which there will not be anything I can do about but there is definately no more hot arse syndrome as the hot air is not being allowed to catch up and rise through my seat pad. In fact, I think Odie's pad and the trojan seat work very well together to remove all of the heat from the rear cyclinder area. This was a very well spent $25. And, if anyone was wondering, the fit was perfect | ||

Update I put 200 miles on the bike yesterday. While driving around and above stop and go traffic speeds, I never felt any heat coming through the seat. Only on a couple of occasions did I even notice the heat coming at my right leg thigh. It seems this helped with the removal of the hot air as well. In stop and go traffic, my thighs did get cooked a bit because I had no airflow pulling the heat away from the rear fan blowing it right on me, but, I did not feel anything through the seat. So this has really synched it for me, it was well spent money |
