I know this sounds like a stupid question but I just bought an 04 12s used and I have seen different exhausts on them. I have a stainless muffler with two output pipes. Is this different than the flat black can or is it just what was stock? I just want to make sure someone didn't slip a race kit past me. lol |

By your description it sound to be the Buell race exhaust. The stock can was black with one outlet to your left ankle. The race kit is an up grade. It consists of the race EMC, air filter, and exhaust. It claims an additional bump of approximately 10hp and torque. The EMC remaps your fuel curve and air mixture. It is street legal. There are other aftermarket exhausts available matching your description, although with out pics would be hard to tell for sure. I hope this helps. |

So there were no stock exhaust muffler that came in a stainless with two outlets in 2004? Is there a way to check my ecm and airfilter? |

It is not street legal either. Not that it matters to most of us. The race muffler is not stainless, it is polished ceramic. Post a picture and we can tell for sure. |

Swang, to check your ECM , look under the seat, behind the battery, the ECM has two gang electrical plugs, if the P/N on the ECM is 82004-03Y, then you have the "race" ECM. |

Well, after checking out all my parts and doing some research with help from badweb, turns out I have a race kit installed that I didn't pay for. I couldn't be more happy Thanks everybody. |

Anything is "street legal" until you get dinged for it. Upgrades like the race kit are some of the less obvious non-legal alterations. Most of the time they (race can and race ECM) get completely overlooked in a safety inspection. |
