That should have been checked every time it came into a dealers hands - they are all liable - especially when all you would have to do is lift the seat and look for the extra black box on the left hand side in front of the battery - where the speedo adjuster would lie (the little black box). EZ |

F-ING WOW!!! That is really amazing... Nice riding not going over... EZ, what do you mean the little black box? Should there be one there, or shouldn't there? I'm a little concerned now... that's some sort of carnage that Matt suffered... Wow... |

Danko, when the rear pulley recall was performed on the 2000 model year Blasts they went to a different size rear pulley and needed to install a signal converter to get the speedo to read correctly. It is a little black box under the seat that is placed inline between the speedo sensor and the speedometer. Commonly reffered to as an ignition module on EBAY. |

does anyone know how to check which size of drive belt should be used on the blast? I have a 2001, tore the original belt at 18,000kms. Since then I have torn 2 more belts in 700kms. The dealer won't cover them, only offer to order me another (very helpful). I know the belt size changed as of 2001, but is it possible I'm on a late 2000 vin'd as a 2001? How do I check this? and how can I be sure I am ordering the right size? |

The early is 135 teeth (pt#G0500), the later is 139 (pt# G0500.01A7-printed on the belt). The 135 will never fit on the later Blasts and the 139 will be very, very, very, loose on the 2000 Blast. The early (2000) rear 'sprocket' has 73 teeth. The later 2001+ has 80 teeth. That should be enough info to verify which you have. My guess is you have another issue, such as worn out sprockets, bent parts, etc. |

Thanks! Looks like I'm counting teeth, and trouble shooting for another cause. As long as I get a ride in before the snow... cheers |

Recalled 73 tooth pulley is on the left (2000 only). 'Good' pulley (2001-up) is on the right. Easy to see the difference as the old pulley is straight and the new updated pulley has a nice bend (or bell) to it for strength.
recalled pulley is now on right:

I dont know where to post this but here goes-Eagles Nest Harley Davidson/Buell-in Lathrop California SUX! I've spent the last 3 weeks trying to get a RECALL on my bike taken care of. 2 trips to the shop,3-5 calls to the shop, 3 calls to Buell Customer Service later and I'm still waiting for them to get the part-a part they said was out of stock, had problems manufacturing, could take at least 2 weeks maybe longer. But when I call Buell Customer Service they say "we have those in stock we sent 6 of em to Eagles Nest 3weeks ago, If they used those and need to order more they'll have em in a couple days" WTF?!?! Screw Eagles Nest. I'm goin to another shop. |

Go to the main board, Knowledge Vault, Dealer Rating (or something like that) and post there. You might even find your dealership is already there. |

My wife took a phone call from Legend HD Buell yesterday saying there was a recall on her 2009 Blast to fix something that is rubbing on the frame. We haven't received any recall notification from Buell and don't want Legend's service department get their hands on her bike again. They had it for 5 of its first 10 weeks and we had to take it to Destination to finally get it running right. Does anyone know of a recall on the '09 Blast? |

Thanks EZ. I was aware of the '07-'08 model recall but now I notice the 6/3/08 build date and I suppose the '09 that we bought on 7/23/08 was probably built in the above time period. I did sort of expect to receive notification directly from Buell if there were any recall issues with our motorcycle. |

I just found my copy of the Service Bulletin and Required Dealer action for the 2007/2008 Fuel Tank Recall (0835). I can scan this 3 page document and email it to anyone who is interested. This details how the repair is done and what parts are necessary. |

Has any one ever had all four bolts snap at the same time that hold the rear motor mount? I did. I just took the bike apart just to get to the snapped bolts so I can take them out.I think that this should have never happen...Can any one say RECALL! |

I've never heard of this happen, but I really doubt all 4 snapped at the same time. My guess is that one went and the others followed. Is it really a 2009 (as it says in your profile)? Has it ever been taken apart? |

To: All Buell Dealers Subject: Safety Recall Campaign 0835 Dear Buell Dealers: Buell Distribution Company, LLC. has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety may exist on certain 2007 and 2008 model year Buell Blast model motorcycles built May 29, 2007 through June 03, 2008. The fuel tanks on these Blast model motorcycles may experience some local deformation under high-heat conditions that creates contact of the tank with the cylinder head. In some of these cases, the head rubbing on the fuel tank has created a fuel leak. This could result in a crash or fire, which could cause injury or death to the rider. We have voluntarily declared this a defect related to motor vehicle safety (Campaign 0835) to allow us to formally recall all affected motorcycles. The remedy is to remove bracket part number P0044.T and replace it with a new bracket which prevents the fuel tank from contacting the cylinder head. A service bulletin outlining the repair and credit procedure will follow within two weeks. Based on the schedule our supplier has provided we expect to begin shipping our first wave of repair kits, on or before the week of September 15, 2008. In the interest of the safety of our mutual customers and as required by law, you may sell but NOT DELIVER any affected motorcycles to your customers until the remedy is completed. Please refer to h-dnet.com on the Service Page/Safety and Product Campaign/Open Safety Campaign Instructions and the Safety Campaign and Open VIN Lists in the Service Toolbox for an updated list of affected VINs for this recall. Select the appropriate campaign number link (0835) to view any outstanding vehicles involved. If your dealership sponsors a Rider’s Edge training program utilizing 2007 or 2008 model year Blasts built in the date range above, please inspect these motorcycles before and after every class event to confirm that the clearance between the right side cylinder head fins and the right side of the fuel tank’s tunnel is 1/8 inch or more. If the clearance is less than the 1/8 inch minimum, the motorcycle must be removed from Rider’s Edge duty until the recall service is completed. In accordance with Federal regulations administrated by NHTSA, Buell Distribution Company, LLC will provide notice to all owners of record of affected products with direction to bring the vehicle in for the recall service. Sincerely, Buell Distribution Company, LLC |
