So there have been a few times when I've not been able to start my Blast... I go through the FINEC, hit the starter and get nothing. Not good, especially when one has pulled over along the side of the road in the "middle of nowhere" to double check one's map. My "fix" has been to jiggle (real technical, I know) the 3 or 4 wires that connect just inside the left handlebar control console. It seems to work, as after doing it a few times, the engine will turn over and start. I told this to my dealer's service manager while in for scheduled maintenance, who passed it on to the mechanic doing the work. When I got my motorcycle back, I was told the clutch pin was sticking (underneath the lever -- I didn't know it was there), but it had been lubed and to "keep an eye on it". That was last Wednesday. On Saturday, I went for a ride, and it happened again. I pulled over for a "butt break", and it wouldn't start. I checked the pin, and it seemed all the way out, so I fell back to jiggling those wires, and that did it. On top of that, during the ride I was coming down a very bumpy hill, and the motorcycle engine cut out! (I was _not_ out of gas.) I carefully braked and downshifted and pulled over, turned everything "off", then went through the FINEC and got nothing. I checked the clutch pin and it seemed ok, so again, I played with those wires, and voila! It started. That's the first time the engine has ever cut out, and it's a hell of a kick in one's confidence in one's motorcycle. WTF??!! Anybody know what's going on? |

Came searching for something like this, I just brought my 2000 Blast into a Harley/Buell dealer in Lawrence, KS. Their analysis of my situation (bike runs fine, warms up, lose power,won't start...) was the blast ignition (module?) gets too hot sitting over the engine and must be replaced. I asked the guy if there was any NASA grade heat absorbing foam that might be rigged to eliminate the problem, but he just laughed... |

Kesselrunner, have you checked to see if you've had the sprocket recall done? 73 rear 'teeth' is bad, 80 rear teeth is good. Please check if you havent done so already. Thanks for the posting on the module. Early years tend to have a higher failure rate than later years. 2000 model year also had a higher failure rate of the oil pump drive gear. If you start to have odd oil issues, that'd be cause for concern. |

The coil? The module sits below, off to the right, of the engine, and it dies because of vibration issues. Pins to the HEI are susceptible to breakage. |
