The stator on my 99 M2 went out the other day. Many thanks to the Knowledge Vault for helping me to correctly diagnose the problem, rather than randomly throwing parts at it. Since this job is beyond my abilities, I called around for estimates. I called 3 shops. The first call was to the Dealer I bought the bike from. They didn't want the job, since they no longer carry Buells. However, if it was a sportster, they figure a 2 hour shop charge. Parts cost was about what I expected. The second call was to a recommended independent shop. Parts and labor were slightly less than the first shop. They had parts on hand and hoped to have me back on the road before the weekend My last call was to the nearest Buell dealership. In both (lack of) inventory and knowledge, this shop has not impressed me. Anyway, they wanted a 4 hour minimum shop charge, and the parts quote was over $60 more than the others! As you can guess, I'm headed to the independent guys. I don't care to get bent over on repairs, just because the shop has a Buell sign out front. |

Gundog changing a stator on a Buell is an easy job and a hobby mechanic could see you through it without any difficulties. Find a competent friend, buy the stator and fit it between you. Rocket |

Thanks, but the job is already finished. It turns out everything was fried. The shop doing the work billed me for 90 minutes to change both the regulator and stator. A far cry from the 4 hour minimum the local dealer quoted me. If I would only buy less toys and more tools, I could tackle more of my own repairs. |
