Tom, Get the Ventura. I've been using one for going on 7 years now. Great product. American Sport Bike has 'em.
Dave, Did you notice that even though the board was not working, the banners were? I hope everyone did some clickin on our sponsors' banners. |

Funny thing was, badweb went down at the same time a microburst or tornado hit here, killing our power, tearing down trees, flipping a couple of cars, and wrecking some boats. When I finished damage control and the power came on, BadWeb was down. You aren't here in Lee's Summit, are you? |

Yes Blake, Rocky Mtn. H-D Buell made a sale today to me. I needed a rear axle and bearings and Gina worked very diligently to fill my order. I did however forget to tell them that I was ordering from them because of their Badweb sponsorship. To the others out there with banner ads, please put your toll free number on it. I wanted to order from Daves but I couldn't find his number. Silly me I thought we'll I can just get it from the Badweb, but no not today! Thanks for all your efforts Blake I was starting to worry. I'm now back to my normal nervous twitches. |

Just a general call to the masses: I'm looking for a wrecked S-1, S-3, X-1 for the motor, really just the long block. I posted in the Classifieds, but I'm sure that not everyone hangs around there. Ping me off-list if you know of one or more |

The phone number is in the banner also... It is after the address.. No, 800 number.. Or you could always go to their website. It is on there.. |

Nice work, Blake. Thanks for getting the board back on line so fast. Must've been quite a meltdown. |

Actually it seems that the problem was due to a very simple benign human oversight. While upgrading the database last night, the sysadmin apparently forgot to reset the server defaults that tell the system to start the MySQL database upon system startup. He checked the board after the upgrade and everything seemed okay, but somehow the database (MySQL for the geeksters) failed to start up. He may have restarted the system after checking the board. If I had bothered to check the board last night before turning in, we could have avoided the whole thing. As it was both I and the sysadmin were out of pocket today at various complementary times. Thus the excruciating delay in getting the database restarted. Traffic is still on the rise. We served up 94 GB last month, a new record. |

It was a funny glitch, I could google in with searches if I found the right combination of words. Thanks Blake, and thanks to your background helper too. Also probably a good thing that not everyone knows your home phone number. |

The glitch is pretty straightforward... the individual threads (as you can see from the URL at the top of your browser... look for the .html extension) are simply static HTML pages (that means they are just files on a hard drive). So long as the web server is running and the disk drives are not smoking holes, they will just about always be there. The search and login pages are dynamically generated, and require a database program (in our case mySQL) to be generated. Look at the URL on those pages and you will see .cgi extensions. If the database is down, those links will not work. In other words, these pages (and similar ones with extensions like .cgi, .php, .asp, etc) are not really files on the hard drive, but rather programs that have to run to generate the resulting page. Thus the name... dynamic HTML, the pages can be different every time you look at them. Static HTML is just a file, and will always look the same every time you look at it. Google (and bookmarks) link directly to the static HTML, so they will work even when mysql is down. The rest of the site, including the authentication system, would not work however. |
