Left KC today in a downpour..got about 100 miles away and pulled over to help a fellow rider with his bike. Got back on the M2 and it won't start..Battery is new, fuses all good and can hear a little click when I hit the starter button. It push starts fine so we are in Tulsa now..Give me any and all suggestions.

Stater maybe dead or battery connections are loose?

If you have to use a dealer, Route 66 in Tulsa has always treated me right. The service manager's name is Tim...the writer's name is Paul. They are terribly busy but may be able to help you if you let them know you are on the road.

To get by, try tapping on the starter w/ a hammer, wrench, or something to that effect. (after you find out if it was a loose wire or not of course!) If it is your starter, that will usually get it to turn over so you don't have to keep push starting it. Good Luck!

sounds like battery, connections or solenoid contacts... all are pretty easy to address. you say it is a new battery? what condition lead to replacement of the battery? is it a known good battery? it is not at all unreasonable to have the seller load test the new battery to see if it is capable of passing a full load test. not all new parts are good.

Check carefully the condition of the wire terminals at the battery \ solenoid - especially INSIDE the protective sleeve that leads to the backside of the terminals.

Some early models had issues with this. At a glance everything looks ok but a wiggle on the wires might prove a loose wire within a terminal causing poor contact.

don't forget the push-on connector attached to the starter on the cam cover side. mine has worked loose a few times.

Sounds like when mine did the same thing. It turned out to be the starter relay.

If you have an AC multimeter (don't laugh, I keep one on my bike to help fix all those broken down imports I keep coming across), you oughta be able to check stator output. Might be weak, and the bike is running off the battery (which does not have enough power to crank the starter, but has enough to run the bike).

Thanks everyone....Looks like V2win wins!!!!!!!!!!! Just the relay Went to Route 66 in Tulsa this morning and they didn't have one...My buddy asked if they would pull one off an xb on the floor (we knew it was the same, from pulling his out and checking it on my bike already) we have seen our dealer Central HD in KC do this with way bigger parts than a relay for travelers..The guy told me looks like I was screwed!!! Got another parts guy involved and within 2 minutes had the relay pulled off a new XB on the floor and out the door free of charge.. If your ever in Tulsa only deal with Buffalo, he is a real stand up guy!!! thanks again to all that tried...
