After tossing the airbox, what did you guys do about the exposed and useless extension on the front engine mount; the one that supports the airbox?

I didn't want to trim mine; I wanted to be able the use the airbox again if I had to.

The exposed mount looked really bad. After a couple of people noticed, I super-glued a deer whistle to it!

It looks kind of cool now. Almost like some kind of airspeed sensor. It fools everyone.

What did you guys do?

Anyone have trouble after retrofitting an earlier mount?

The earlier mount works just fine, but I found it easier to just cut the ear off of mine and clean it up with a little polishing.

You can also use the X1 motor mount. That one doesn't have the airbox mount. I think it's relatively cheap too.

Some have attached a K&N crank breather filter to it under their ForceWinder, but if on my bike, it would drool oil sludge all over.

Hey Jasonl,

I'm afraid to try that.

I've read that it's possible to do it, but the procedure isn't outlined in the Service Manual. There is also a warning not to remove the front mount unless absolutely necessary.

I've seen on a UK site where it was done.

Has anyone here attempted it?

Dan,
I'm swapping my M2 front mount for the X1 part.
It's waiting for pickup at my dealer.
I'm going to clean up the casting marks and polish it.
All the attachment bolts are being replaced with new ones.
It's not a big deal to replace the front mount one time.
If you install and remove frequently, I think the concern is over stressing
and weakening the bolt holes in the front head. One time isn't going to be a problem.
If you do it, be sure to support the motor from the bottom securely. Don't want it to drop and do serious damage.

I'll let you know how mine goes.

Dan,
I cut it off my first Buell and ground and polished it with a dremel.I was not all that impressed with the outcome considering how much trouble it was.The rest of it is a textured finish and didn't match. On my new bike I left it.I am looking for a small light to mount to it and tie into the high beam.Good luck.

Be sure to follow the post-recall procedure for that front mount, it's around here somewhere in a service bulletin. They have a very specific procedure for installing those bolts. Always use new bolts and washers, too.

Replacement procedure at http://caferacers.editthispage.com/stories/storyReader$218 , but I do have a question step 8 reads -8. Remove and discard two bolts and washers from left and right side of front isolator mount. This is pretty clear new bolts/washer. But step 7 reads - 7. Remove and discard isolator locknut and remove bolt, two washers and D washer. Also see step #14. Do I only need a new locknut? Or all parts?
My heads are with Brian Nallin now, trying to gather parts needed for reinstall.

Thanks,
Jeff

I've got a small light on my airbox mount, but it's coming off . . . . only about 50% of the light gets to the road, withi the rest nicely illuminating the right fork leg and such . . . .a true pencil beam (which I do NOT have installed), however, may work better . . .

I bought a X1 01 front motor mount for my M2 01. Price with bolts and washers was $36 (hope to have it Saturday). I was at the dealer and noticed that the X1 has a front tie Bar that I don’t have. Should I buy this part or is it only for the X1.
