Okay, been riding the snot outta this bike...

I DONT want a repeat of what happened the other night....

I know there are kits out there to move the rearsets up and back, but, I find the over-all riding position to be actaully about perfect, no too far forward, not too far back....

Anyway, my question is, how much of a difference in comfort is there for the extra couple degrees vs comfort, I will be ridding this from VA to Mass at least once a month(and back obviously), so if the trade off isnt worth it, I will mellow out a little, not a big deal....

Just trying to get some opinions from other X1 riders that have done this....

I do know I shoudl probably get a track school in at some point(soon), BUT, in my area of VA I cant seem to find nything other thatn stunt riders group and info.....

Thanx in advance....

Chase

Have you thought about using peg relocators instead of rear-sets? They're available from many sources and the they only raise the pegs about an inch up and back. This isn't much, but it does help and the riding position isn't very compromised.

Chase, if you are much taller than 6' tall rear sets are probably not an option. I am 5'4" tall and I find the riding position with my Banke rear sets compromising after about 150 miles. Position of the bars also has an effect. I have the Crossroads bars on my bike and they tend to stretch my delicate body quite a bit over the tank. Hope this helps, and all you tall people out there, don't get upset this is just my opinion.

DJ, Brent, thanx,

I am 5'9, so like I said, its perfect for ME....

Just got off the phone with Al @ American Sport Bike(again, I love this guy, knowledgeable, AND patient....

Needless to say he straightened me out... I am gonna go witht eh GP pegs, better clearance, without changing the position....

Now, to find a steering damper cheap(LMAO yeah right)....and better shift linkage(I hate the "boomerang"....

Thanx for your help,

Chase

I like the boomerang shifter. All the slop can be taken out of the action with a bushing kit from American Sport Bike. I just installed one and it works great.

also if you are thinking about doin long rides, you may want to swap out your seat to the buell seat or Corbin.. I got my corbin off Ebay for like $100 which was an AWESOME investment.. I have a 72 mile one way commute to work every day, and it is a REMARKABLE improvment.. I have a 2002 X1, and i am 6'2"

Actually, I find the seat ratehr comfortable, BUT, compared to my ole Duc, which I swear, was leatehr over cardboard, or my old rat bike(my fatehr gave it to me when he finished his FLH, something about a bad back), of course this is gonna be comfortable...

BUT, my buddy has the fancy Buell seat on his X1, I will have to try it, and I havent seen the Corbin in person....so who knows,

A decent "cruise control" would be a "god-send"....

Again, thanx all... any more input will of course be welcome...

Actually, the house is in Monson. Palmer is the next town over... I would say about halfway between Worcester, and Springfield.. in the eastern hills of the pioneer valley.... no stoplight town, with plenty of "Buell Roads"...

Though I am drawing a blank as to where Uxbridge is, though I shoudl know....

Maybe next time I come up, we can shred some of the back roads in NH VT, somewhere...

Chase, I put LSL rearsets (back 2.5", up 1.5" ) on my X1, and like you are concerened about, was kind of uncomfortable for a 34" inseam. I also have the Xroads bars which bend me over a bit too.

However, I got used to them and found it hard to go back.

Previous long trips with that combo have been from Houston, TX to Atlanta, GA (800 miles)in one day and Houston to Phoenix, AZ (1100 miles) in a day.

First impressions on a new riding position are not the ones to go by. Takes getting used to and in the case of my X1, I liked the new position better, even in stop 'n' go traffic.

Do some research on how far back and up the new rearsets will go and go for a mild change if you're wary. You might want some lower and further forward bars as a result.

Mike right on, next time I actually make it up there, I will hit your email...well, when I know I will hit your email....

And yeah, those roads are great arent they? My trooper, with its stock 170 hp, and 35s, hates those mountain RDs....but....

And brookfield, thats where my mothers BF is from, well, W Brookfield I think....

Glider, thanx... but being active duty, its more a money experiment thing at the moment, so I will try to GP pegs, adn see if that does the trick, and if not, I will invest in the rear sets....

Thanx for all your help, everyone....

According to msn.com VIR is "only" about 4 hours away from you. I know that sounds like a long drive, but it's a really nice track and well worth the trip. NESBA has quite a few more track days at VIR this season. I just did my first track day on the 14th and I absolutely loved it.

Spike, I was told about VIR yesterday, by another local Buell rider, I have anoterhs #, and will get in contact soon, but the navy is screwing me everytime I trun around.... as soon as the excedrine starts working, I am gonna ride...

Just lost my chance for advancement, due to a school, they are sending my butt to SAR(search and resue swimmer) school, but I need the Leadership to go up for E6, guess when that was supposed to be...

Anyway, they said tough sh*t, the needs of the navy etc...well, this is the second time they have done this to me.... and they wanna know why I am getting out...LMAO

Politics, has no place in teh military as far as I am concerned,...

"our job is defend democracy, not practice it"

Just wish it was still that way...

Anwyay, enough of my useless rambling/chatter/whinning.....

I'm using S2 touring peg mounts upside-down on my S1 currently. Lately I'm starting to drag parts again so real rear sets are goin' on soon.

Some of the best rearsets I've come across are homemade deals I've seen on various Buell racebikes.
