Kevin, and all you other BadWebbers too!

XB9SX
3500 miles on it now
K&N filter
TFI unit
Drummer (quiet model)

I have been playing with the settings of the TFI for a bit now and have to confess that I was getting frustrated.

I kept making little adjustments and not really noticing any performance changes. I was experiencing stuttering at about 4000-4500 on hard acceleration as well as an occasional sudden power loss while cruising around 4000 (5th gear)on the freeway.

After going back to the 'starting' settings of 3,7,4,7 and having read that pot 4 should be at 8,

I had then went to 3,8,5,8 and was still getting the same 'feedback'

At this time I called Dobbeck Performance. After talking with their tech guy (didn't catch his name)he said the pot #2 was where I needed to adjust to get rid of the stutter. He suggested to go higher because Buells run lean right from the factory. He also said to make large changes, not small ones. Said to try going up 2 notches. He told me that stuttering was an indication of BOTH running LEAN and also running RICH.

I increased it to 3,10,4,8 and still experienced stuttering at 4000-4500.

I now went the other way to 3,6,4,8 and suddenly I NO LONGER have the stutter OR the cruising power loss!

It may not be totally dialed in yet, but at least its rideable now.

my fuel mileage went up a bit as well too from 40mpg to 42mpg...I know small difference but it also tells me the TFI is making a difference.

seat-of-the-pants dyno tells me......YAHOO!!!

So what did they say about the 4th one set at 8???

Did he comment on it or not?

Reason I ask is because I don't think anyone really knows what it does. Well, we all know what it does but not what the effects of changing it are. I think Jerseyguy ran several data loggings with different settings of pot 4 without a significant change in data so ....

But I'm glad to hear you got your settings pretty much dialed in. Spares you dyno time that's for sure.

Ingemar

I did not ask about #4 pot...read elsewhere on Badweb that they were recommending to set at 8...so I went with that.
mainly I wanted to get the middle sorted out before f..king up my motor.

Kevin

I'm luvin the way my XB9 feels now...couldn't be any happier with the muffler. I used to compare the way it sounded to a ride-on mower...not no more!
