Anyone see the recommended suspension settings listed in the latest FUELL magazine for track use? They left out the 170-190lb range settings. One could interpolate between the other given weight ranges. What I find interesting is how soft they recommend the front preload and how stiff the rear preload. Also the compression and rebound adjustments are set very stiff (almost maxed) on both ends. Any of you track-day regulars running these settings? Do they make sense for off track use? I have set mine up as suggested in the article(less preload (front) and increased rebound/comp on both ends. Seems OK but don't have much time on it yet. |

The combination of Increased rear preload and decreased front preload is great for a smooth track, but could cause problems on bumpy, less than perfect roads. These changes, effectively tilt the bike forward, reducing rake and trail (the rear is raised while the front is lowered). The steering geometry is affecting and the steering will be noticeably quicker. For street riding, the front end could wobble at high speeds or under hard acceleration. You might want to consider a steering dampener. |

"What I find interesting is how soft they recommend the front preload and how stiff the rear preload." I know it's mostly semantics, but using the terms "stiff" and "soft" when describing preload is incorrect. "More" or "Less" would be more correct, as would "High" or "Low". Preload doesn't affect the spring tension, only the balance of weight fore/aft, and where in the suspension travel you will spend your time. NOT spring stiffness/softness. |

i increased my rear preload & decreased front w/ adjustments to match in comp/dampg & man .. immediately diference .. the heavy, slow sterring went away .. now its VERY nimble .. but a bump in road at over 80mph is like riding a hardtail old school biike! its fun, but makes back sore after an hour .. factory settings are definitely .. no wonder a lot of sportbike spoiled reviewers don't rate the buell, other than as a hooligan tool. |

You MUST work the front end damping in addition to preload. Those settings in the table are Higbee's wild guesses at starting settings which work better than the settings in the owner's manual. The trend in the past bunch of years has been to go for a little more static sag and get more control by varying damping. The "hardness" of the ride being more a function of increased damping. |

I use the Fuel Mag settings on the track, (last track day was a week ago...the next one is TOMORROW!) I also am running Pirelli SuperCorsa's between the two the turn in is awesome. There is zero stand up that I had with the stock settings and stock tires. On the track it is great. On the street the suspension settings feel like a "Hard tail". I'd recommend trying them for a track day. |

I've got my first track day next month, does anyone have the track settings for a 2003 XB9S for a 200lb rider? I have lower bars, so the R settings would be a decent starting point if S settings are not available. I did BTFM, but it sounds like you guys didn't have a great experience with the settings in the manual. Thanks, Scott |

Actually... The more miles I put on the bike on the Spars the closer I get to the stock setup... |

One thing that makes me wonder??? If the forks on the '05 models are bigger, would the settings be the same for a earlier model??? Hmmmmm Kevin |
