I have not seen any publications that compare the various Buell models in a shoot out. So, which Buell is fastest when negotiating erm?.....say, high speed bends? is the XB king of the Buells or is the rw better? which tuber caines the corners? cheers eze |

Arguably its the XB. Out of the crate I think there's no comparison, though the tubers have some potential. Anyway, Battle2Win had an issue mentioning the turn in points of a stock XB compared to an S1 racebike. Leaned very favorably to the XB. |

Mcn publication in UK did a Buell XB Vs R6 cornering shoot out. The Buell was often quicker. I will see if I have article for more info. got a copy of B2W article?, i have lost mine. cheers eze |

XB, no doubt. I switched from a X1 to a XB9R in 03 and my first day on the track my lap times were 3.5 seconds faster! |

Dave Do your think a 12 might let you shave more off your lap times? -Mike |

I think that would depend more on the track, its easier to stay up in the revs and higher in the powerband on a 9 then a 12, but the 12 has more drive out of the corners, so on an open track, I would say the 9, but on a tight twisting track I would say the 12. |

I really don't think there would be any difference. I actually "feel" faster on the 9R. It might have something to do with the following, 1-I only got 2 track days last year instead of my usual 10-12 2-Kandie was at the track for both of them and the last time she went to a track day with me in 03 is when I crashed at Brainerd and she freaked out when the guy next to our pit area told her I was in the ambulance. 3-I didn't feel like I had been at Appleton long enough or sold enough Buells for them to start pitching their bikes into the trees without catching some grief over it! |

PS, In 03 when I switched, by the end of the summer I was 6 seconds faster on the XB than the X1 |

6 seconds is an impressive gain, can it also be due to more comfort at the track or would that also be due to the new model too? I imagine the power delivery is different on the 12 vs. the 9, it would be interesting to run them back to back on the track. My local dealership has lost it's Buell enthusiasm and aren't hosting any events anymore. Some day I'll run up to Idaho Falls or down to Vegas to check the 12's out. I got to ride a 9 with the race kit, it felt too refined for me, I missed the shacking and the torque of the big engine, funny huh? I imagine on a tight track I'd enjoy it (the xb9er) a lot more... -Mike |

Chassis' are more capable on the XB's, no question. Higher stability and increased corner entry speed potential due, primarily, to chassis construction, geometry and clearance/lean potential. However, according to my butt-dyno, the T-Storm tubers appear to have the edge in midrange acceleration. Do those silly drum dynos concur? ymmv, Lawrence |

There were a few 'tubers that were still woopin' last year in Thunderbike, in other CCS classes and at other club events. Most teams I talked to said they switched to the new platform due to their current bikes having a lot of race miles and most said they were also encouraged to do so. The way I have my S1 set up, I prefer it over the XB. I'm sure I'm a minority here, though. |

Rick you are not alone! During DEMO days I ran the XB 9 and the Firebolt 12. I ride a 99 X1 and my preference goes to the tuber. It's louder than the XBs and I feel without mods the older Buells have more comfortable seating, the same acceleration and I "feel" lower to the ground on the X1 rather than the XB however I also understand that the XBs will lean much farther than my comfort level. |

I race both a tube framer and a XB. They feel completely different. The XB turns quicker and I can put it anywhere in the corner I want. Easy to change mid corner line as well, which makes it more raceable due to having more options getting around people. The XB also has more cornering clearance. The X1 is more of a single line bike, and it talks back to you more. It wiggles around everywhere, but never really does anything really scary. Dare I say the X1 is more fun, you might not be lapping any faster than on an XB, but it sure feels like it. It definitely decks out earlier though which limits max lean angle (this is with the factory rear sets and foot pegs cut down to 2 inches long). I'm 7/10ths a second a lap faster at Barber on a 1200XB than my old 1200 S1/X1 (Now Chris's bike). I'm 4/10ths faster on my 1350 twin carb tuber than my 1200XB at Putnam. |

I totally agree with Racerx1. The X1 IS fun to ride and gives a LOT of feedback. The XB just does what it's told. So, I feel, a seasoned rider would enjoy the tubers. Me? Not being "seasoned", the XB is way more forgiving! |
