Had to push my XB9SX half a mile to get gas when I first bought it - only made 20 something miles on reserve. Still, I prefer the smaller capacity tank to the alternative - the reduced weight and reduced polar moment of inertia are well worth a half a gallon or so. |

That sucks Joele. Though, I have a feeling you won't be pushing it that much on reserve from now on. |

Yes, CA gas is awful. I use Chevron, which appears to be the best of a bad bunch.

Get about 48.5 mpg on mine. Had a Kawasaki before got worse economy but longer range. Oh well. |

For those of you still complaining, you could get a KTM Super Duke and live w/25 mpg, similar sized tank, and an unreliable reserve light. Buy a larger and obviously less exciting touring bike.
( I think the Goldwing has a good sized tank) or you could, like the majority here, Endure the hardship granted you by Erik Buell and his ilk. I choose the latter with a grin from ear to ear... everyday... no matter what the weather.

I used to get only 70 miles to the tank on my '86 GSXR-750. Of course it had some jeting done to it and a Yoshimura exhaust so I don't know if that was the reason. A guy I used to ride with had the same exact bike and we both filled up and went into reserve at the same time (within a few minutes of one another) so that made it somewhat apparent that it was not just my bike. |

its a toy, just enjoy it for what it is and if yo can't handle the gas then get a bicycle. |

Want more capacity? Cut the area where your snorkle goes thru, then weld it shut. That should give you about an extra 1/2 gallon. Read the SportRider mag with Buell in it? The race Buell did that to avoid pitstops. |

Got my first service completed and installed the TFI. Got 80 miles out of the tank with the reserve. Ha! Had that first pot too high.

Conversation about gas mileage does not warrant being told to purchase a different brand of motorcycle. Sheeesh
This thread was started because my little brother Tim and I and a friend will be going on a ride in June around 4000 miles in 10 days on our Buells and in the process of getting ready we wanted to see if we could make it 140 miles reserve included. Guess what? Nope tim ran out at 136, about 4 blocks from the gas station. I don't understand why a certain number of people here answer in the same fashion for every discussion. If certain people on this discussion board rode their bikes more they to may wish for a little more gas in the frame, especially in the middle of Montana, where you can go a while without seeing a single soul or gas station for that matter. So to those who are so quick to cast judgment go more than 100 miles from your house on your next ride.

It seems like a lot of people think that you should only own a Buell for city riding, I love everything about my Buell just wish it would go further on a tank of gas. Not everyone putts around the city racing from stop light to stop light to gas station to stop light and home. Some of the best corners you will see in the world are 150 miles from any gas station. Just because we would like more distance on a tank of gas doesn't mean we do not like our Buells and should not make some people upset because we said we would like a little change in our bike. Now I know a lot of the Buell owners do ride their bike out of the city to discover the corners in their area but if a stretch of road was 200 miles without any gas stations would you take that road, and if you say no then you maybe missing something extremely thrilling, and if you only ride 1/3 of it you may not reach the best part.
Static, I do not remember anyone saying that the Buell had bad gas milage, it is one of the most economical motorcycles you can buy, if Buell lost every rider because all they wanted was to have more distance riding then you would not have a future Buell to purchase, if I am not correct the majority of the post to this topic agree that it would be great to be able to ride 200 to 250 miles on a tank.

I ride rather spirited and still manage 180 - 190 miles including reserve. light came on this morning at 150 and I get at least 35 miles on reserve (never ran her dry to know for sure) Bike is bone stock. |
