Sorry I missed it...

I didn't realize until this morning when I got up to head down there that I had an appointment w/ Mayer HD to get all three of my ECM's reset...

Well, I got there and they didn't seem to want to believe me that if they set a TPS on an ECM that it would retain it's settings and I could swap them out at will... It's my frickin money... Lemme waste it if you think I am...

Anyway, they wanted to call Buell and confirm that what I was saying was true. I think Buell will tell them that they "should" reset a TPS each time it's installed. If they tell the tech that, I'll just tell him he needs to reset my damn ECM's to my bike or I'll beat him about the head and neck...

Anyway... Going back next weekend, which will only give me the rest of Saturday and Sunday to get it dialed as well as I can for the SpringFast...

Glad you guys had a good time : ). Waiting for the pics...

I had to shoot 120 medium format so it will be a few days for my pics as I can't just drop them of at any 1 hour photo. Of course after I get home my remote trigger for my old Olympus 35mm showed up...that way I could shoot left handed.

Yeah yeah yeah...I had to get over the whole ego thing but I did take a few laps. The bad part is my wife ended up getting stuck in the wonderful Saturday construction traffic, and didn't make it out to the house til after 2:00!! I could've hung out for another lap or twenty!

Glad to see so many Buellers show up to a BMW dealership. I don't know what the BMW guys thought of us, but a few did actually venture out on the track. Jim, you and you're brother were tearing it up. Good to see ya again Bill, and great to see ya out and about Wyck.

Springfast cometh...and I can't wait!!

First off I appologize for the lack of photos, it was more difficult shooting a right handed camera left handed and having them all come out in focus. These are the best shots of the bunch.

Brian aka Tuscan XB lined up and ready

James AKA JWZ

Kobie AKA Warp2

Reg and Kobie chatting it up

the means

That Kawasaki Police bike was cutting the fastest times and belongs to James' brother Vance. Unfortunately most of the rest suffered from trying to capture you guys in motion, focus, and shoot all with one hand. If I can find a frame or two more I will get them scanned in.

Where did Brian find that bike? he hehe
Must be a little negative reversal going on...

Ya still did good for a gimp there, Wycked!
We're going to have to do something about getting you a digital for SpringFast.

No beverages for me tonight....staying down here in Maricopa. The rest of the week may pan out though. My wife is coming up Thursday night and through the weekend, so we can finish getting the new house ready. We'll have to get together so you can meet the reason why I won't be riding Springfast.

I'm new to the Buell world and I have to admit that I've never been a big fan of HDs, but the other day there was an XB9R parked at work and it was BEAUTIFUL! I was very impressed with the fit and finish. Anyhow, it got me thinking.

Here's the rub. I've heard BAD things about the HD dealer here in Tucson and I was wondering if the rumors are true and if so, is there some other dealer that can be recommended? Or some other independent shop that can do the regular maintenance (if I buy a used bike)? I wouldn't be opposed to going up to Phoenix but since I live on the far SE side of Tucson, it's a 2.5 hour drive.

Any opinions (good or bad) about the HD dealer here in Tucson would be appreciated.

Nevar,

In my opinion, Buy a new one it comes with a 2 year warranty and get the service manual and do your own scheduled maintenance. Use the dealership only for warranty work.

Welcome to the Board

Sorry to have missed the BattleTrax. Looks like you guys had a good time. I was off galavanting around the interstates doing an Iron Butt ride (posted in the Tales Section). I prefer the curves, but it was a fun ride.

I gotta do about 30 more of those things to catch Ski!

Nevar,
I'm sorry to say that while I lived in Tucson, the local "Stealership" tried to gouge me when replacing fork seals on my '98 S1W Lightning, AND tried to charge me almost double for tires purchased off the AZmotorsports website.
AZmotorsports owns Tucson HD, along with Chandler HD, and Arrowhead HD, and a slew of other bike shops. So they should honor the prices posted on the website.
The BUELL motorcycles are truly a work of art. The fit and finish are excellent, and the handling is phenomenal. Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of the dealerships, (Stealerships) for any warranty work that needs to be done.
A used BUELL would be a better idea, if you are not mechanically inclined since you can take an older "tuber" to almost any Harley speed shop and have the work performed for a better rate, AND get better service.
there ARE good dealerships out there, just not in our area.

A few years ago the HD dealer in Tucson was fined for "misleading customers about warranty items". They are part of the "MotorSports" conglomerate, with m/c dealerships in Tucson, Sierra Vista, Phoenix, and probably elsewhere. I REALLY dislike the Metric Dealerships (won't buy anything from them) and I've never been in the Tucson HD dealership.

This is probably the only thing that could keep me from getting a Buell. Sigh...

Nevar,

Just for a reality check, if you dislike the Metric Dealerships, you damn sure won't like the Buell dealerships in Arizona. Some have learned to accept unacceptable service and call it good service. I'd rather tell it like it is.

I wasn't going to say anything bad about Tucson because I haven’t been there since 97 but they screwed me more than once by over charging. As soon as a dealership opened in Phoenix in 99, I dropped them like a hot potato, only to find there all the HD dealers are in the same boat one way or another.

You'll also be surprised and notice how some of the service managers and gear heads switch shops. I personally know a couple of really good mechanics but the management really sucks and seems to be the problem.

Buells are indeed sweet but generally speaking you'd better have some mechanical abilities if you're going to own one. There not like most of the jap bikes, where you can beat them to death and they're still together years later.

Take Barts advice too.

Bart's advice sounds good to me too, but I do my own service work.

Just an FYI... The dealer up here in Mayer and the one up in Belmont (both are "Grand Canyon HD"; ) are good dealers and are Buell friendly. They have at least one tech that just got out of Buell school as they call it, and they don't tend to rip me off with service charges.

Last weekend I went in there to have three ECM reset and get my steering head bearings checked. They wouldn't reset the ECM's, but only because they weren't certain that the set would stick after I removed the ECM's. I told them they would, but they wanted to be certain so I didn't waste my money... I wasn't extremely happy about that as such, but I appreciate the fact.

When checking the steering head resistance they realized that the guy that has the fish scale is out fishing with it. They had the bike on the stand for a couple hours trying to track him down. Once they were done, they charged me for .3 hours labor. A little over $20. They've generally tended to go the extra mile for me with scheduling. Their head salesman owns a Orange/Greyishpurple S3T, the tech that works on my bike rides a Duck.

I can't say as I'm exactly impressed with their parts staff, but I've never gotten a wrong part...

I have four bikes, 04 Duc ST4S, 03 MotoGuzzi Lemans, 01 929RR, and 00 Aprilia Pegaso. I do all the easier maintenance: oil changes, wheel removal for new tires, etc., but I don't do any major engine / drivetrain work. I wouldn't be racing an XB, probably not even riding it too hard.

I don't really need another bike but I've been looking at the Duc M1000DS and the Buell - strangely similar bikes. The only thing that makes me lean towards the Monster is Renaissance M/C here in Tucson - I like them. Not cheap. But good.
