Hi all, replacing the drive belt on my 03 XB9R,but cant release the small screws that hold the upper and lower belt guards. Looks like the Loctite has got a real good hold and if I exert any more pressure on them I will round the heads. Thought about heating them but then that would melt the guard. Anyone got any tips?
Cheers.

Sears is selling a neat new set of no-drilling-required screw removers for $19.99. Picked up a set yesterday just in case. I have been replacing screws in non-critical areas with stainless, which are easier to live with. Good luck.

Sometimes you can get a small set of vice-grips to bite on the edges of the head flush with the piece being held and break them loose that way. Orient the vice grips on their side, flat against the surface that the fastener is engaging.

always give them a tap first with the torx bit and a hammer to loosen off the grip off the loctite and any corrosion that might have set in

Thanks guys... mission accomplished using a torx bit, block of wood and an impact driver! Still could not loosen the screws that hold the lower belt guard onto the swing arm but there was more than enough free play to get the belt on without twisting or flexing it with them still in place. Its all back together and the love affair resumes.
